Realized she was nauseated, her stomach jumping, falling, twisting, churning, her cheeks blushing with the sting of a sudden fever.
The stranger’s hands cupped her face, his touch cool against her skin, the fingers long and safe. His face moved near hers. Even in starlight, the features remained hidden in shadow. The breath on her lips was warm and carried the acrid punch of communion wine followed by gin, vodka, bourbon, whisky.

the stranger said. His voice was a whisper, the words ominous.
Another swallow. The lightning quick threat of a second belch. Her gut rolled, tossed, turned. The heat of the earth holding her like a vice was still hot. Too hot. Her heart raced.
