He’s the vampire's king.” I turned back to her. “Klaudius is the Blood King. The first vampire to ever organize the blood clans and try to wipe out all Alpha bloodlines centuries ago. He vanished after the Great War, but I always suspected he was still pulling strings.”

“I am not, and he doesn’t. Next time you do not take orders from him, and you will confer with me if he tries another stunt like that.” The guard nods vigorously, his eyes wide and fearful. He opens the door, the herald jumping to his feet when he sees me coming in flanked by my ranked men. He taps his staff with the bronze bump at the lower end into the floor and loudly presents me. “His Royal Majesty King Caspian Sunborn Wilde Darkmoon, ruler of the Nockturn Crown and all vampires. His Lordship Duke Drake Nightblade, His Lordship Duke Tristan Moonshade.”

This was the first time I was seeing a vampire, and I wanted nothing but to kill him. A second later, more vampires appeared out of nowhere. Everyone was shocked. They were fast. Too damn fast. "My name is Jacob, and I'm the king's second-in-command." He smiled cruelly, his eyes roaming over everyone like we were nothing but prey. "My king is very kind. He doesn't want to fight, so he's giving you a chance to accept our leadership. Come under the vampire regime and follow our orders like pets. Then we'll leave you." Everyone growled at his insult.

His mate was terrified of him. He turned around sadly, staring at his mother for a while before he left the room. Without a doubt, his mate had passed through some physical abuse from someone. She stood rooted on the ground, shocked to the core. The man was not just a vampire, but also he was the vampire king. Who doesn't know the vampire king—a bloodthirsty king who was capable of breaking the alpha's arms? The king called the God of War and of Blood and of Vengeance. This was the most terrible thing she had encountered herself doing.

King met his gaze then, enraged. The vampire saw King’s red eyes and the grin disappeared from his face. He tried to flee in shock but King shot a hand out and grabbed the front of his shirt. He cocked his right arm backward, and smashed it into the vampire’s nose, sending him flying. King heard the satisfying crunch of bones breaking and followed the vampire. He had only one desire. He was going to kill this thing. He was going to rip its head off of its body. He launched an uppercut into the soft underjaw of the vampire and sent him flying upward. He leaped into the air after his target, but the vampire floated higher, out of King’s reach.

He had essentially ended the war because no one could defeat him and the current werewolf and human kings decided it was better off to join him than die. “One can only hope,” Janus snickered. I changed the conversation to one of the card games she and Kyle loved and then spent the next twenty minutes zoning out while they argued about the best way to play. My mind drifted to what it would be like to be with the vampire king.
