Instead, he lets it fall. “Six days,” he says softly, voice rough at the edges. “Then this part ends.” But what comes after? The words are unspoken, but they sit heavy between us. At precisely nine, the wedding planner arrives. A severe woman with hair pulled into a knot so tight it looks painful, her tablet clutched like a weapon. Three assistants trail behind her, armed with swatches, binders, and sterile efficiency. The table soon vanishes under glossy photographs—flower arrangements, gilded invitations, crystal centerpieces. None of it feels real. None of it feels mine.

“Are you okay?” “Sure.” I smiled and took the glass from him. “Cheers to a lifetime of peace and happiness, Zevara’s husband.” He blushed deeply and clinked his glass against mine. “Yes, wifey.” We took a sip of our drinks and celebrated with the guards. Later, the event planner—a middle-aged woman in her forties named Madeleine—arrived, and the wedding planning began. The wedding was fixed for a month later, and I looked forward to it more than anything else in my entire life.

"Yeah, is today seriously Wanda's wedding?" Easton laughed it off. "Look at her. Who in their right mind would actually marry her?" His friend quickly agreed. "Right? What kind of rich guy would ever go for someone like her?" Tina was still frozen in shock, muttering to herself, "How could it be Gavin Hackett? That's impossible!" A low, magnetic voice cut through the crowd. "Wanda, what are you waiting for? Come up here." The man standing onstage smiled at me warmly and held out his hand.

The first time I found Adrian and his private assistant, Mia, texting each other good night after midnight, we had our biggest fight yet. After that, when I asked him to keep his distance, he deliberately got even closer to her, determined to make me stop being so sensitive. He took Mia shopping for furniture for our future home, let her sit beside him in his car, and when I was sick with a fever, left me alone while he took her to his family’s estate. Every time I said something hurt me, Adrian pushed a little further. Eventually, I stopped asking. Adrian thought he had finally won. At the housewarming party for our new Tribeca penthouse, I pressed my finger to the smart lock. Fingerprint

On the day of our wedding ceremony, Nalani Smith shows up with her family of three to marry me. Her younger brother, Felix Smith, follows closely behind her, holding a child in his arms. I stub out my cigarette and ask apathetically, "Why don't I step aside and let you two have each other?" Tears immediately well up in her eyes, and she raises her hand to swear that there's absolutely nothing going on between them and that all those rumors are nothing but malicious slander from outsiders. I nod. When the officiant announces that it's time for the couple to exchange rings, Felix abruptly drops to his knees. Pointing his finger at her, his voice trembles. "But I'm the one you love!" On our eighth anniversary, my boyfriend, Liam Daniels, dragged me along to plan his marriage proposal. That exact morning, my pregnancy test came back positive. Outwardly, I teased him for ruining the surprise. Privately, I called everyone I knew to brag. My parents wept over the phone, saying time flew by too fast. My best friend, Mia Kyle, promised to beat him up if he ever stepped out of line. Even my older sister, Sarah Davis, choked up, swearing she would be there no matter how busy work got. On the big night, I wore the white dress Liam bought me. When I stepped into the venue, I realized the proposal had been transformed into a full wedding reception. I watched Liam Daniels

Jared's POV I didn't stick around. I went home. My neighbor did a double take. "Jared? Why are you home? Wasn't your wedding today?" I'd been planning that wedding forever. Everyone knew. So yeah, getting ditched at the last second? Not exactly easy to hide. I didn't stop unlocking the door. "We're not getting married. She's busy." Busy giving her ex a wedding. Pity flickered across my neighbor's face, but she was nice enough not to ask.

The next morning, Quinn came to see me on her own. She carried a thick stack of wedding planning documents, offering a half-hearted apology. “Eve, about the wedding dress and the ring… I didn’t expect it to cause you so much trouble. I was just being cheeky. To make it up to you, I’ll take over the wedding planning.” Before I could respond, Lewis chuckled. “Quinn is trained in wedding design overseas and has won multiple awards for it. She’s more capable than most professional planners. Having her handle it will save you a lot of trouble.”

Three years after I had made my girlfriend, Sophia Lambert, sleep with her superior, she finally went from being his lover to becoming his wife. Meanwhile, I barely made it out alive after years of being undercover in a drug trafficking ring. My body was broken beyond repair, and I had returned home only to wait for death. Sophia arrived with one of her arms wrapped around her husband’s during a charity visit for the poor. When she saw me standing in line for relief aid, she let out a mocking laugh. “Benjamin, how did you end up like this?” I hunched my shoulders. I hid the First-Class Merit Medal for Narcotics Enforcement I had received not long ago. After a long silence, I asked, “A
