Whispers Through the Wall
Ethan saw and took advantage of it, advancing until there was barely space between them.
"You said you were done with pretending," he whispered. "So stop pretending now."
Her eyes met his, wide and shining. She opened her lips to say something, but nothing escaped her lips. Instead, she let out a trembling breath and turned away—deflecting again.
Ethan's fingers extended, tentatively, carefully, and touched hers.
"You let me in once. That night. The real you," he whispered. "You didn't fake anything then."
A muscle in her jaw contracted. She pulled back her hand, but only after he could feel the warmth of her fingers, the tiny shiver that betrayed her.
