Sandra went back to sipping her juice, even joining in as the others sang.
Her joy had only just begun to settle when she heard the opening notes of a new song. This time, it was Jessica who was about to sing.

Sandra’s heartbeat quickened until it pressed painfully against her chest. Her breathing grew shallow, strained. Tiny whispers, faint and ghostly, began to curl into her ears. Her body stiffened, turning cold. She clutched her glass tighter and tighter until a thin line of blood slowly trickled from her palm.
