Ruth acknowledged an almost similar version of the first drawing, except it looked small, had a black yarn-like excuse of a ponytail above her head, and no red represented ear-to-ear smile. "Yeah."

***** Inside the Blackfang Rift The sky above the Blackfang Rift cracked open with thunder as we crossed its jagged threshold, swallowed by shadow and cold. The rain followed us in, but as if cursed, it no longer fell in droplets—it became mist. A swirling, heavy, ash-scented fog that clung to our skin and refused to evaporate. Even the light from our mage lanterns could barely slice through the gloom.

From above, the thunderclouds broke open, and a sudden downpour began. Rain fell in heavy sheets, soaking the sands of the arena, washing away blood but not the tension. The storm felt almost symbolic—cleansing and chaotic. Ryu’s wolf eyes glinted under the lightning as he stalked forward, every muscle tense. I followed at his side, no longer a victim, no longer a prisoner. I was Samantha Blackthorn, daughter of fire, and the storm wasn’t just around me—it was inside me.

It was like talking to someone who just… knew everything. By evening, it started raining again. Raina turned off the main road and pulled into the largest nearby town. She decided they’d spend the night here—rest a bit and reach Crimson Hollow tomorrow. The moment they turned in, the rain suddenly stopped. A vivid rainbow arched across the sky. Raina’s eyes lit up, a soft smile tugging at her lips. She turned toward Leif, blurting out, “A rainbow!” But as soon as the words left her mouth, she froze. She’d blurted out something she shouldn’t have. Leif couldn’t see. No matter how beautiful the world was in front of him, it was all invisible.
