“Alania, where did you go? I can’t find you in your ward.” Joy caressed her stomach with a loving expression as she sat in the ward. She gave off a motherly air, as if she wanted the whole world to know that she was pregnant. I stood outside the door and watched her quietly while I clenched my fists. My nails tore through the skin of my palms, and the pain gradually made me regain my rationality. She wanted to test the waters, right? I would give her the chance.

I would often feel my stomach kick me with hunger , as my nose smelt the food that was cooking but I easily turned my attention back to the burning kingdom. Maybe it could be. Otherwise, wrapped around her body, they would not have settled themselves in her.

My pulse beat slowly and steady between my thighs, and I could feel the ache spreading like wildfire. I reached for my phone, fingers trembling, and dialed Derek. No answer. I tried again. Hunger gnawed at him like a dull blade, but thirst scorched him raw from the inside out. He had tried licking the condensation off rusted pipes, even pressed his tongue to a broken bottle hoping for a drop, but nothing came. The city outside lived, breathed, roared, but for Rico the walls kept him in a prison of his own choosing.
