"Have you talked to Maddie at all?" he asked.
"Yes," I said, my irritation growing. "And now I'm talking to you."
I needed him to get the point and get out of my life. Otherwise, the next article I write would be a true crime article about David's untimely death at the hands of his ex. Me.
He sighed, rubbing his hands over his eyes. He usually only did that when he was feeling stressed or upset. "Um... I found out a few weeks ago... but my... my mom has cancer. Stage 4."
