“Earth to Belle.” The voice startled her out of her reverie. She looked up to see her friend Cassidy standing next to her, a teasing grin on her face. Belle blinked, trying to pull herself back to the present. “Hey, sorry. I was a little lost in thought,” Belle replied, offering a sheepish smile. “A little lost? You looked like you were miles away. What’s got you so distracted?” Cassidy asked, sliding into the seat next to Belle. “Let me guess, some guy?”

I said, my voice low. “All right,” Rex said. “I will tie Jemson’s hands behind his back. Then you can tie mine, and Miss Bella will tie yours. Does that sound good?” He looked at Thomas, and both boys nodded, their faces bright with excitement. “But Daddy, who will tie Miss Bella’s hands?” “Oh, she will not be tied, son. She will be the judge. She will see who gets free the fastest.” Thomas giggled, delighted. My insides clenched. What was he doing? He would not hurt them. He could not. Once Rex finished tying Jemson’s hands behind the chair, he grabbed Thomas. He lifted my little boy up and over the railing of the balcony.

I nudged my lower body a little and realized I had been slick. Afraid to be discovered, I eagerly nodded. "Yeah. A little." Meanwhile, Mrs. Parker was hoisting her bag over her shoulder and passing by the bedroom. "I'm going out to get some groceries for dinner tonight. Any special requests?" Seeing that neither Leo nor Max answered her, I could only speak up. "Baked ribs sound nice." With that, Mrs. Parker headed out. The bushes were trimmed into all sorts of animals and people littered the parts of the lawn that was not taken up by the fountain. The beach lay just beyond the backyard, grass forming into the sand, bushes, and hedges turning into sand dunes. The water sparkled and dolphins flipped from the water in the distance. Fang Wei Wei walked towards the extravagant mansion, down the little stone path to the black door. She stabbed the doorbell. Hearing a faint 'ding dong' she huffed, waiting for someone to come to the door. It was, moments later, opened by a middle-aged woman
