I had been outside, on the hunting grounds with the other men when he had walked up to me.
He was older than me by just barely eleven months, and he had looked soft, but he didn’t flinch as he watched me shoot down the birds. I remembered exactly what he was wearing, a blue shirt that hit his knees, way too big shorts and a teddy bear that he held so close to his chest it looked deformed.
He had come up to me later during the dinner, sans teddy bear, to ask if I could teach him how to shoot. He stared me straight in the eye, not a single stammer lining his voice. I had said yes, and that was where our brotherhood started.
