The pain of almost losing her, of the schoolyard cruelty she had faced, of the custody threat that had hung over us like a guillotine, was a shadow I could not shake. I pulled the blanket up over her shoulders. The fabric was soft, the color of slate. I had made it myself, two years ago, from a remnant of merino wool. The seams were reinforced. The edges were bound. A small piece of armor for a small person. She stirred slightly, her brow furrowing, then relaxed back into sleep.

I don’t even notice the T-shirt in his hand until he walks closer and hands it to me. “Put it on and remember it’s a privilege.” He leaves me alone, but I go back into the bathroom and close the door. The shirt is soft cotton and way too big. The good part is it lands mid-thigh, and I don’t feel as naked. I pick up the blanket and fold it so I can take it to him back in the kitchen. If it’s the only blanket I’ll get, I’ll put up with the stink.

In the reflection of the window, I caught glimpses of pale skin and delicate curves as she peeled off her blouse. "You're watching!" she accused, catching my gaze in the reflection. I didn't deny it. "I'm making sure you don't pass out from hypothermia." "You shameless—" she sputtered, yanking off her wet pants and throwing them at my head. I caught them easily and tossed them aside. Reaching under the seat, I pulled out a Moonlight Thermal Blanket specially designed for werewolf physiology.

“Maybe it will help balance her weight and not jog her as much. You take that side.” They eased Tara onto the blanket and wrapped her tightly. Dennis grabbed Mitch by the wrist in a firm hold. His expression of gratitude and friendship when their eyes met caused a lump to form in Mitch’s throat. Clearing his throat, Mitch said, “Come on buddy… on the count of three”.

I hissed, turning my hands upwards and reaching for my core. My hands bloomed with yellow light, growing warm with heat, before sizzling with a blue flame. I almost jumped. At the same moment, I noticed something different about me. I made to run to the mirror before I froze, scooping up the charred blanket and stuffing it into a laundry bag. It should remain there while I figure out what I would do about it. I hope the omegas don’t miss it too much. There are probably a thousand blankets divided into batches for every royalty in the Alpha house, so I don’t think anyone would miss one blanket.

Lewis lightly glanced at him before saying, "Grab a clean and warm blanket." The warrior looked confused at first before he hurriedly replied, "Right away, Alpha!" In a flash, he disappeared from the place while the other warrior stayed prostrated on the ground. 'What does he need a blanket for?' I thought to myself, curious as to why Lewis suddenly asked for a blanket. Just a couple of seconds later, the warrior returned. On his hand was a beautiful yellow wool blanket. The warrior hurriedly walked towards us and respectfully offered the blanket to Lewis. "Alpha, here is the blanket you asked for," the warrior nervously said.

“My mom said it’s the only link to my past… I think it might help me figure out who this woman is that keeps sending people to capture me.” As I held it, I felt a slight tingling in my fingers. It was almost as though the blanket held some sort of magic, but I knew that was ridiculous. I pocketed it, then helped Enzo strap my suitcase down to the luggage rack on the back of his motorcycle. When we were finished, he handed me a helmet before we climbed on and drove away.

Jen scanned the cable guide and found another show and quickly changed the channel. "Jeff, I'm sort of cold. Do you have any blankets or throws I could cover with ?", Jen asked. "Yes in the closet in the master bedroom, there are blankets and throws on the top shelf, let me get one for you.", I replied. "No, I will get it. Tiff, you want one too ? ", she asked. "Yes, I am kind of cold too, thanks.", Tiff replied.
