I kissed his curls, then his cheek, holding him close as Grandma Jo joined us.
“Oh, sweetheart,” I murmured. “That’s okay. Accidents happen.”
He sniffled, pressing his face into my shoulder. I felt Grandma Jo lean down and gently pat his head.
“I’ll buy you a new one tomorrow,” I promised softly. “A better one. And Ms. Rachel's videos will start playing again, okay?”
Teddy nodded and his crying slowly began ease as I hugged him again.
But even as I held my son, feeling utterly loved and war, a quiet unease lingered beneath it all.
