The Wolf's Game
The mark between us hums softly, connecting us in a way that I have never experienced before.
The other contestants appear seemingly out of nowhere, and my stomach drops as I think that one of us won’t make it out of this next Game alive.
The Herald appears in the doorway, its porcelain mask cracked down the center. The fissure glows faintly red, like a wound that won’t close.
“Players,” it croons, voice echoing through the hall, “the next Game awaits. A test of truth. A dance with what you hide.”
“That’s ominous,” Therin tries to joke, but it lands flat.
