" Maru was excited to start this new adventure. He looked unto the future with bright prospects. 1 hour 2 hours 3 4 Four hours had passed and it was already 12 pm. He had collected only 504 world energy worth of those metals he found. Most were silver coins and he only lucked on finding a single gold coin. Maru was hoping to find treasure chests filled with gold and gems like in the stories his mother told him. But he never saw one in his search. He had asked Madame Ais about it and she answered that there was no buried treasure in the continent he was in. "Were there treasure chests in other continents, Madame Ais?" Maru's curiosity wouldn't let the topic die just yet.

Every bad story started with treasure. Then Thomas kept reading. "We were wrong." Nobody liked that sentence. Nobody. Then another page. "We found an island that does not belong on any map." Lily felt her stomach tighten. The room grew quieter. Even the puppies stopped barking. As if they were listening too. Then Thomas turned another page. "We first saw it during a storm." Silence. Heavy silence. Then: "It appeared where there should have been open water." Nobody moved. Nobody breathed. Then Thomas stopped reading.

A boy. They were holding hands. And above them, in the sky, was a star. "This map," Ethan said, handing it to Liam. "So we don't get lost. So we know where the treasure is." Liam took the drawing. He looked at it. His hand trembled, just a little. He looked at the stick figures. At the smiling faces. "This is excellent navigation," Liam said, his voice thick. He looked at Aurora. She was smiling, her eyes shining with tears she wasn't letting fall.

Kai grunts, “Arr, tis a shame. To mutiny against one so fair, is an injustice most foul.” He runs a finger down her cheek and she grins, “Should we track them down and take some revenge, Ellie o’ the sea?” She shakes her head, “A fine offer, but I feel that we should just beat them to the treasure.” She goes back to the kitchen, and finds a piece of paper and quickly sketches a map of the rooms, with a dotted line and an ‘X’ in the bedroom. She brings the map back to the living room, spreads the paper out on the coffee table and puts her finger on the ‘X’. “I believe it’s buried here.” Jessie and Danny grin having finished their chocolate bars and Danny traces his finger over the line.

I was the only place in the entire estate where no one looked at me and saw a mistake. That morning I carried my treasures there: the porcelain doll’s hand, the black scale (now wrapped in silk and hidden inside a tin box), and a book I had stolen from the library (The Chronicles of Eldoria, Volume III, the one with the torn page that showed a serpent prince with eyes of living fire). There was a painting on the paper, and it was drawn with a fine paintbrush. There was a mountain and a lake. There was also a forest of tall pine trees. Among the trees, there was a cross. Holly figured the treasure was buried at that spot. She stared at the drawing and studied it closely for a moment.

Dave said with a smile as he looked at me. Once again, I was taken aback. “Treasure island? Wait? Did you say you acquired it?“ I asked, almost in tears. Treasure Island was a small island that had been trending everywhere. It was such a small piece of land in the middle of the sea. Everyone was dying to visit it. I was sure that no amount of money could ever allow anyone to own a piece there. Dave rolled his eyes at me. “Someone told me that she would give me a kiss if I brought her to Treasure Island,” he said.

The beach stretched before them, a swath of golden sand kissed by gentle waves, mist swirling like playful spirits around vibrant blooms that filled the air with tantalizing scents.
