His hair was a tousled mess from running his hands through it repeatedly. “I know it was,you don't need to convince me of that.” He leaned closer to show me a space in his book. “Here, I found a reference to an ‘awakening curse’ that triggers mortal danger, but nothing about a blast of light that sends wolves flying.” He looked up at me, his brown eyes somber. “Trinity, what you did... It was powerful. Raw. Maybe even divine.” A lump formed in my throat. I didn’t feel divine. I felt broken. Haunted. Like something inside me had torn loose and didn’t know how to go back into hiding. “There has to be an answer,” I whispered. “Something that connects me to this... to them.”

I look over my shoulder at Greta, but all I get is a smile and a shoulder shrug as she walks off towards the kitchen and I am dragged closer to the crowded couch where I can see the top of Kennedy’s head through the mass of wellwishers surrounding her. “Come on Finn, look at, look at!” Trinity moves like our bodies are the same size and I can wade through the legs of adults like she does. “Come on Finn!” She says, annoyed at the slow pace. A few people move at her fireceness, smiling at the demands of a determined child.

Lizzy says. “I better go,” Trinity stands up. “Tri, where are you going?” I ask quickly, confused. “Home, duh!” “Yeah. Let’s call it a night. A morning actually,” Dean agrees. *** I was able to convince Trinity to come with me tonight, and I’m dying to ask why she seems acting weird tonight after the game. Something is bothering her, and I can’t let this night go. “What’s going on in that head of yours, Tri?”

"I mean, I don't know his last name, but that's not a big deal, right?" Trinity looked at me incredulously. "Not a big deal? Raini, how do you know he's not hiding something from you? Like, I don't know, being a werewolf or something?" I burst out laughing again, thinking that Trinity was joking. But when I saw the serious look on her face, I realized she was serious. "Trinity, that's ridiculous. Werewolves aren't real," I said, trying to keep a straight face. "You never know, Raini. Stranger things have happened," Trinity said, shrugging.

I felt heat rise in my cheeks, even in wolf form. "We’re more powerful now than ever," Trinity continued. "Let me show you." Without warning, our fur shimmered. A radiant silver light burst forth, illuminating the dark forest for just a heartbeat. It was dazzling and otherworldly, and then it was gone. Still, I waited for Kayden’s answer, curious about how he would respond. Trinity was always the one to say things straight, and this time, she was right. There really was something about that look in Kayden’s eyes…
