My stomach twisted, but I knew there was no escaping it. The first few rounds were harmless. Dumb dares. Embarrassing truths. Somebody had to run to the mailbox shirtless, another admitted to peeing in the pool last summer. But soon, the dares got sharper. Riskier. “Kendra!” one of the boys called, grinning wide. “Truth or Dare?” Kendra lifted her chin, smirking. “Dare.” The boy’s grin widened. “I dare you to… make out with Caleb.”

Truth or Dare was a game where one person was randomly selected from the group, and the chosen person had to pick either truth or dare. Those who chose truth had to answer a question, while those who chose dare had to accept a challenge. If someone refused to answer a question or complete a dare, they had to down three large glasses of beer. No one said a word, which was a silent agreement. Vincent cracked his knuckles, grabbed an empty bottle, and swiftly spun it on the table. When the bottle stopped, whoever it pointed to would be the chosen person.

Ronan, of course, was no exception. I still remember the first time I met her. She loved Truth or Dare, and each dare was more outrageous than the last. Other people's punishments were to go pick a fight with some punk on the street; when it was my turn, she ordered me to act out our favorite sexual position with Ronan in front of everyone. I only whispered that the dare was crass, and Clara immediately stormed out, red-eyed, slamming the door behind her. The mood in the room soured instantly, and they all rushed out after her, with Ronan leading the pack.

The fire crackled in the background, adding a touch of magic to the atmosphere. Jonathan’s eyes sparkled mischievously as he turned to me. “Truth or dare, my daring Angel?” I grinned, feeling a thrill of excitement. “Dare!” He chuckled, his mind concocting a mischievous plan. “I dare you to give me a silly, exaggerated dance performance right here, right now.” My eyes widened with surprise. I had never been known for my dancing skills, but I was always up for a challenge. Taking a deep breath, I stood up and walked to the centre of the room, ready to give it my all.

Which is hard to do when you're alone. My urges, my struggle, leaked into my conversation with Sam. I asked if she would like to play truth or dare and she agreed. Things started off innocently enough. "I dare you to Snapchat me a pic of you drinking vinegar" or "What is the worst thing you've ever done" type stuff.

“Spinning works. Who goes first?” We did rock-paper-scissors. Damian won. He spun the bottle, and it seemed to turn forever, the tension building until it stopped, pointing right back at him. “Oh, oh!” I exclaimed, clapping. “You’re up first. Truth or dare?” “How many truths do I get?” he asked. “Let’s do two truths and a dare,” I proposed. “Cool. Truth, then.” I leaned forward, pretending nonchalance. “Do you still love Ann?”

My name is Zara, 20 years old, and I was the one who suggested Truth or Dare. “Rules are simple,” I said with a mischievous grin. “No backing out. No chickening out. If you refuse, you drink.” Everyone cheered. The circle included my best friend Chloe, her boyfriend Marcus, my roommate Elena, the quiet but hot guy from my psych class named Liam, the athletic soccer player Derrick, the flirtatious party girl Sophia, and the mysterious transfer student Jax. The game started innocently enough. Chloe dared Sophia to do a body shot off Derrick’s abs. Laughter erupted as Sophia licked salt from his skin. Derrick dared Liam to confess his biggest crush. Liam blushed and admitted it was Elena.

"Truth or dare! Who's in? We need some chaos to end the night right." Groans and cheers mixed as people gathered in a loose circle on the floor and furniture, about ten of them now, cups refilled, eyes glassy with fun. Katherine joined, the sheer bottom of her dress pooling around her, exposing more legs than she realized. The game kicked off tame like truths about crushes, dares to chug beers or post embarrassing selfies. Laughter echoed as Mark was dared to kiss Lisa, their peck turning into a sloppy makeout that had everyone whooping.

Des brought up more than 20 games with pretense that he had learned them all when he was in school but they later found out he had searched for them all on the internet. " Now, let's start with the truth or dare. " Des announced and they all clapped their hands happily. " Let's start with Miss Eva. What do you choose? Truth or dare?" Ava was taken aback as she wasn't expecting the workers to be so interested in her to the extent that they would call out on her first but it was her party anyway. She cleared her throat and smiled. " Truth. " She replied. " Truth. What's your biggest fear?"

The bitter sweetened taste crouched over my taste buds and I felt the drink slowly hitting its way into my system. “Now it’s my turn.” I spoke, dropping the empty glass. “Truth or dare.” “It would be boring for me to pick truth, so it’s a dare.” My eyes held a shred of thought about what to dare him about. “I dare you to mmmm …..to take off your shirt and smut dance with someone.”
