The pillar’s colors jittered. The hum under the floor wobbled. On the screen, my duel with Selene played in sped‑up montage, our blades and shadows and mirrors reduced to a blur of motion. “Author vs Champion!” the Game sang. “The crowd‑pleaser nobody expected. Result: unsatisfying draw. Audience hunger: rising!” “Turn it off,” I repeated. My hand lifted almost of its own accord.

He made his move, and smiled at Lara as she played her penultimate card. "I will pass," the blonde, Aaron's companion, raised her hands, passing the turn to him. Aaron smiled subtly at Lara, so discreetly that she was the only one to notice. He slowly placed the last card he had in his hand on the table, declaring himself the winner of the game. At least he thought so. "Are we done here?" Granger used a clear, somewhat arrogant tone. "I hate to admit it, but I think so," Will threw the two cards he still had on the table, showing that he could not match Aaron's game.

He tried to hug me and kiss me while ignoring my attempts to push him away. Feeling his tears on my face, I was sick and humiliated. Just as he was about to tear off my clothes, the bedroom door burst open. "Let her go!" The once dim room filled with light, and a loud bang echoed as a bullet struck Elliot's arm. Joseph stormed in with his team, kicked Elliot aside, and wrapped his arms around me protectively. He glared at Elliot, who was in pain on the floor. His eyes were icy and fierce. "I promised Dad I wouldn't end you, so consider this your last warning. Next time, it'll be much worse."

I could not believe the arrogant Dave was about to play the game too. Tala shrugged of the thought of Dave embarrassing her as she joined us. I sat quietly... Its windows rolled down and more gunfire lit the street. Sparks danced across Montez’s door as bullets ricocheted.

I had thought I would calmly expose his lies, but my body couldn't help but tremble as I spoke. "You disgust me! Since that's the case, I'm done playing this game. Go, be happy with her."
