Felix didn't take Chester and Nancy with him. It looked like he was giving them a chance, but that was nothing short of terrifying. Chester and Nancy were fired by the bank. "Or else, I'm not sure how I can stop myself from killing you to avenge my baby." I had no complaints about becoming disabled for him, because that was my choice. But my baby was innocent! "Go ahead." Horace wasn't scared in the slightest, instead taking another step toward me.

That seemed counterproductive when I needed every advantage I could get. "Tell me about the Twice-Born," I said suddenly. "Everything you know. Maybe understanding more about what I am will help me understand what I need to give up." Beatrice set down the book she had been examining and moved to sit across from me. "The Twice-Born are legendary. In all the centuries I have lived, I have only heard of three others existing. They are souls who have died and been brought back by divine intervention, not through dark magic, but by the direct will of a deity."

On the cover was the word, “Bitten” Raven opened the book and felt a surge of power. The pages looked empty at first but a flash of light lit up behind every word as they appeared. This book had been enchanted. “This is from your father’s library. It contains the tale of the child born of the Bitten and the Born.”

The same night her parents brought her home again, she killed them with a kitchen knife and then jumped into the river. "And Sadie… After she ran out of the station that day, she got into a car accident. She lost both her legs. She'll be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. "On top of what happened at the lounge, her parents couldn't afford the medical bills and disappeared. No one knows where she is now. "As for Daphne, she wanted to take a leave, but her parents forced her to stay in school. They sent her back yesterday." The officer who had grown close to me spoke while scrolling through the campus forum and handed me her phone. The screen was filled with insults, mockery, and photos
