It glowed faintly for a second, then dimmed.
“Alright,” I said. “Show me what you’ve got.”
She looked hesitant, like I’d asked her to dance naked in front of a crowd.
“Come on, Bella. You channeled fae magic straight into a bunch of rogue vampires last month. Don’t tell me you’re shy now.”
“I didn’t mean to do that,” she said.
“Well, today you will mean it. That’s the point.”
She closed her eyes, took a breath, and lifted her hand. For a second, I saw it; faint light gathering in her fingertips, a kind of soft pulse. But then it fizzled, sputtering out like a candle in the rain.
