The wraiths emerged like ghosts from the white. Twisted silhouettes of frost and hunger, they glided across the snow without disturbing it, their faces voids of jagged teeth and hollow light. Their cries sounded like wind through a dying forest haunting, broken. Elizabeth didn’t hesitate. She ignited her hands with golden flame, the heat pushing back the cold as she stepped forward. “Shield the twins!” she called out. Lucian moved in tandem, his sword already slicing through the first creature that lunged toward them. Nightbane howled with impact, severing the wraith in two but it reformed almost instantly, tendrils of mist snapping it back together.

“He would experiment on them with spells, potions, and surgeries. If they died, it didn’t end for them. He would bring them back to an undead state. Then hide them until he was in the mood to attack something or someone. Use them as throwaway fighters.” Jessie couldn’t help but gasp. “I’m sorry, but a Lich is like a mage or Druid then? Reflexively, Sarah's hand reached up to touch one of the lengthy scars on her face. Nate was aware that her coven had never taken well to the unwritten agreement between the magical beings of Elmwood. They were apprehensive near members of this other supernatural species because of previous experiences. Nate muttered, "I said, ignore them," and started along the broad sidewalk. She froze, though, just as she was about to turn away. One of the wolves had come into view for her. He was tall, handsome, and trim. He had the same tanned skin, dark hair, and bright green eyes as someone Nate had known in the past. His and hers met in the gaze. She was unable to turn away.

I stated, gesturing for him to move forward. Dominiko moved forward with caution. His eyes scanned the scenery in front of him. I knew there were warriors scattered through the trees and watching him. As he continued to move forward, his head snapped in the direction of movement. "Lycan!" Elara hissed. She was one of the covens top warriors, known for her potent hexes. She could tag a target without looking. It was a gift from the moon goddess for her great sacrifice. Gifts like that were only given to witches who made the consecrated vow.

He looked exactly like he did in the photos, this time even better. Handsome didn’t even begin to cover it. He stood around 6’5”, with a model’s physique and an effortlessly sharp presence. Dark blue eyes, a chiseled jawline, a well groomed beard… He looked like a Norse god. Like the actor who played Loki in Vikings, only far more captivating.

She lifted her skirts, ready to step onto the staircase of light. Just then, the sky suddenly filled with dark clouds. A tidal wave of dark energy descended from above. The figure of our Sire, Lylandra, slowly materialized above the circle. She wore a blood-red gown, as regal and dangerous as a queen. "Lilith. Becoming a Daywalker... and you didn't think to tell your mother?"

I hissed, my teeth bared in a snarl as the silver fire in my eyes met the sapphire light of the core, “then let’s see how your math handles a New Variable!” ​I opened the floodgates. I reached through the "Twilight resonance" and called to the twins. Across the sky, on the Floating Isles, Leo and Liam felt the pull.
