he asked when I entered and he looked up from the paperwork on his desk Marcus's office screamed vampire, it was dark even though he like most vampires had a day walker charm that meant the sun didn't effect him but it didn't mean he liked sun light. His furnishings were dark wood with walls of shelves holding books, volumes, tones and artifacts. I liked the darkness it didn't bother me, I ws more goth then Susie sunshine anyway. Although I did like girlie things maybe because my best friend Rori was into it but here with Marcus I felt completely at home.

She steered his lips away from her mouth, guiding his hot breath down the column of her neck. Marcus was breathing like a drowning man, completely intoxicated by her scent. His wolf was screaming inside him, a chaotic mess of his sexual hunger and a strange panic. He followed the trail of her skin, his teeth grazing her collarbone, before his lips slid upward, pressing directly over the silver, crescent-shaped scar on the side of her neck—the permanent mark of their Luna awakening. The moment his lips brushed the scar, the world shattered. Marcus froze. A visible tremor tore through his entire frame. The golden light in his eyes didn't only flash—it fractured into a chaotic silver.

But the world outside the frosted glass windows continued to turn, and the final rite of their union still awaited them. As twilight began to bleed over the jagged peaks of the Moonrise territory, painting the sky in deep, bruised shades of violet and indigo, the heavy oak door of the den finally opened. Marcus stood in the threshold, his scarred face illuminated by the flickering torch he carried. He didn't speak, offering only a deep, respectful nod to Xander and a bow of his head to Aria. It was time.

“Just thirsty… Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.” Dad mumbled something incoherent and shifted but didn’t wake up. Marcus set his glass down and stood up, towering over me. He was so much bigger than I remembered — muscular arms straining against his black button-up, the top few buttons undone to show a hint of chest hair. “You’re not interrupting,” he murmured, stepping closer until I could smell his cologne mixed with whiskey. “But walking around like that… you’re playing a dangerous game, little girl.”

He stopped beside Leo, giving his friend a subtle, warning nudge with his elbow before offering me a warm, incredibly charming smile. "Ignore him, Olivia. He hasn't slept in forty-eight hours because he was too busy curating a five-course tasting menu for tonight," Marcus said. His voice was smooth, a distinct contrast to Leo's high-energy cadence. He extended a hand toward me. "I'm Marcus. It is an absolute privilege to finally meet the woman who turned our resident shark into a functioning human being." Even after a few moments, Marcus doesn’t feel sleepy. “It doesn’t work on me, see?” Marcus said to Theodore. He has to be happy for this but he’s not. “That’s a good thing,” Theodore smiles. “Why it doesn’t work on you?” Reva asks. This has never happened before. She never heard of anything like this. Viktor is perplexed. “It’s not possible,” “It’s possible,” Marcus said, “Like how you’re a rare kind of your clan. I am a rare kind too,”

Twilight was sorting through some files in her dad's office when a pair of hands covered her eyes. “Guess who?” “Alex?” “Missed me?” “You wish. What are you doing here?” “I heard that someone had finally found her mate and I had to come and see it with my own two eyes. Also, I wanted to meet the man who was able to win you over. She pulled the heavy velvet curtain back and quickly scurried away. Alpha Maddox sat at a long, candlelit table. He was a large, imposing Lycan with slicked-back dark hair and a jagged, ugly scar across his throat. He wore a sharp black suit that failed to hide his crude, brutal nature. "Heiress Nora," Maddox smiled, revealing a gold tooth. He didn't bother standing up. "You look stunning." "Save the compliments," I said, pulling out my own chair. I sat directly across from him. "My guards will wait by the door. If you brought any enforcers, send them out. I want this conversation private."

“And when it’s over, Shadowveil will return Elena to me. This rotten world will finally be cleansed… and my mate will live again.” A chill swept through the courtyard. Every face drained of color. Marcus looked at Lara one final time. “You are everything I hate. The chosen one. The blessed one. The symbol of a broken world.” Dark symbols suddenly spread across his skin like cracks in reality. The platform trembled violently. The ground beneath the entire territory began to shake, a low rumble that vibrated up through my bones. And then Marcus smiled—that smile so terrifying it turned my blood to ice. He threw back his head and laughed. “The sacrifice was the packs themselves.”
