With her playful nature and twinkling laughter, she led us through a labyrinth of sparkling crystals and shimmering streams. Sparkle guided us to the edge of a breathtaking waterfall, where the water cascaded down in a dazzling display of colors. She beckoned us to follow her as she leaped into the air, transforming into a radiant butterfly. We watched in awe as she fluttered gracefully, leading us to a hidden meadow filled with vibrant flowers.

I followed and entered the cave. The spotlight had faded and now only dimly lit the cave; the walls were made of shimmering light blue rock. In the middle of the small cave was a beautiful pool made of ice blue colored water. I went to take a closer look, and as I peered into the crystal-clear water, I saw that there was something down there. It looked like brilliant white swirling lights, and they were very much like the swirling white circles that I had in my angel eyes. Watching the brilliant white lights swirl and move around in the water, was hypnotizing and I couldn't stop watching them. I felt the overwhelming need to touch them, so I reached a handout to try and reach them.

Caitlin said, laughing as they raced downhill. “Don’t worry,” Polly said, out of breath, running beside her, “I have one for you.” “What about me?” Scarlet chimed in. “I want one, too!” Ruth barked. “And so does Ruth!” Polly laughed. They soon reached the edge of the lake and all came to a stop by its shore, out of breath, Scarlet still laughing. Caitlin looked down at the water and marveled at its light-blue, crystal-clear color: she could see right through to the bottom, and saw it was lined with thousands of smooth, multi-colored rocks. The place truly looked magical.

This crystal seemed crucial to its survival and its connection to the cave. It was a large, pulsating gem with a vibrant color—perhaps a deep orange or yellow, like the sun. It glowed with the same eerie light as Stalagtor’s eyes and was clearly integral to its life force. I extended my hand, trying to touch the crystal when I heard its roar again. I jumped back as another round of explosions sounded. Clutching at my chest, I felt an intense throbbing. A bright light illuminated the cavern, making me blink furiously. My eyes watered from the glare, and I shut them again.

Max and I followed her and saw there were no lights in the room, and there was only only a bed inside. But on the walls of the room, there were stones that glowed, giving off a pale white light like the moonlight. “What are those stones?” I asked as I looked in awe. “They are beautiful.” “Those stones are called moonstones, and they hold certain magical powers,” Rosa explained. “So you don't have to chant spells anymore if you use those stones?” I asked her curiously. She smiled as she knew of my curious nature and answered patiently, “For some, yes, we can use those instead of spells.”

Lyra, Ronan, and Sage contributed their own unique signatures—silver, deep purple, and emerald green respectively—until all seven lines of power converged at our feet, swirling together in a vortex of color and light. She patted my cheek. “Poor baby. For the second assignment, you can tell me what enchantments we’re going to do, and why.”

The cover had an embossed phoenix on it, and a few gems in gold settings to highlight some details. Ash had done some research on the stones as they had intrigued him, the eye was a fire agate, red and orange with hints of green. The tail feathers had a stone in the centre of each of them, either fire opals, red with a hint of iridescence. Or ‘Dragon’s Breath Opals’, red with hints of blue in the right light. While these were made of glass, they were possibly the most interesting stones. They were all beautiful and made the whole book look very impressive.

She’d placed small crystals in each corner of the nursery, linked them with thread she’d woven spells into, and connected the whole thing to a larger crystal she kept in her room. “The moment their power spikes,” she’d explained, showing me the setup, “this crystal will glow and pulse. Different colors for different types of power surges. Red for Ari’s white light manifestations. Gold for Ash’s flame episodes. Purple if both happen simultaneously.” “And has it been going off?” I’d asked.

On top of it sat several small crystals, each one shining under the candlelight. I leaned down, curious, and reached out to touch one. It was pale pink and smooth, like it had been polished over and over. It felt cool against my fingers, almost like it was humming very softly.
