His movements were fluid, almost theatrical, as he drove his blade into the man’s throat in a single, swift motion. The guard let out a strangled gurgle, his hands clawing desperately at the wound as blood poured freely down his chest. Spider twisted the blade with a flourish before pulling it free, stepping back as the man collapsed into a lifeless heap. With a flick of his wrist, Spider sent a spray of crimson arcing through the air, clearing his blade of blood. “Efficient,” I muttered, sidestepping the growing pool of red as I moved past the body.

I felt it then. A tug. Low in my throat, deep in my chest, something primal twisted. Jealousy was an ugly word, one I didn’t often taste.
