Inside smelled like stale beer, desperation, and Rhys Caldwell.
He sat at a long table covered in maps and guns, back to us, barking orders at three lieutenants. Lisa’s voice crackled over a speaker phone, shrill and panicked.
“They’re coming, Uncle Rhys! Blackthorn is—”
I shifted back to human, naked and furious, and stepped into the light.
“Looking for me?”
Rhys spun, eyes widening. He was older than Damien’s father, built like a tank gone to seed, gray beard, scars across his knuckles.
