The Night Before I Knew Him
I pulled my hand away.
“Don’t,” I snapped. “Don’t say anything. Let him answer.”
The doctor cleared his throat.
“I’m very sorry,” he began gently. “You suffered severe trauma to your lower back and abdomen. When you were brought in, you were unconscious and had lost a lot of blood. We did everything we could, but…”
He paused.
I shook my head.
“No,” I whispered. “No, don’t say that.”
“But unfortunately,” he continued softly, “you experienced a miscarriage.”
