Stone shattered beneath us, dust exploding into the air, and I went down on my knees with Finn in my arms, his weight too stiff, too heavy, like I was holding a statue that hadn’t finished turning yet.
Cracks crawled across his chest. Red light bled through them.
“No,” I whispered, hands shaking as I pressed them against him. “I didn’t mean it.”

Relief punched through me so fast I almost laughed.
“You hear that?” I said desperately, looking down at Finn. “It’s gone. You’re free. We’re—”
“But the damage,” Lorgan continued, eyes lifting to mine, “cannae be undone.”
