Unmasked Jason Novels & Stories

"I believe you've been calling me by the wrong name." Kairos frowned, confused. "Lucan. What are you talking about?" "I think my real name is Brandon," Jason stated, every word measured, final. "Brandon Caelthorn. And you know that, don't you?" For a moment, Kairos went perfectly still. His breath caught in his throat and he swallowed a mouthful of saliva. It finally happened. Jason finally found out who he is, and he had been trying to stop it but he failed. The effect of the name, spoken here, by him, was devastating. The mask fell entirely. His eyes widened, cold and raw with disbelief, shock, and dawning fury.

For years, I had endured so many forms of abuse, I had been hoping and expecting this, but finally seeing the long awaited ink on the paper felt like a heavy stone being lifted off my chest. I dunked my phone to the bed and pulled a secondary, encrypted burner phone from the hidden lining of my jewelry box that say pretty on the nightstand and typed a single sentence to a contact I hadn't messaged since the day I said "I do." "The mask is off and the coast is clear. Activate the Blackwood protocols and begin the aggressive short-sell on Thorne Group, immediately. I’m coming home to claim my seat. Afterall, it is long overdue." I looked at the bathroom door one last time. Julian thought he wa

“I was never the sidepiece. I was the blueprint. You were just the mistake he married along the way.” I closed my eyes. Let her talk. Let her dig her grave. “You think exposing me ruins me? All it did was free me.” Then she hung up. The next day, Jason disappeared. Boarded a jet that vanished before it ever reached its supposed destination. Interpol got involved. His assets were frozen. And suddenly, the world wanted to hear from the woman who had torn the veil off it all. Me. On the evening of the press conference, I stood before flashing cameras, microphones, and a hungry sea of journalists.

I rounded the corner and stopped dead. Jason sat at the kitchen island, showered and dressed in dark jeans and a fitted black t-shirt that showed off the body I’d seen way too much of last night. His dark hair was still damp, and pushed back from his face. Those green eyes lifted to meet mine, and that infuriating smirk appeared. “Morning, Melissa!” Mom turned from the stove, with her spatula in hand, beaming. “Come meet Jason. He prefers Jason over Luca.” “We’ve met,” I said flatly.

Back to the present, after staring over my reflection in the mirror one last time, I grabbed the food pack I'd prepared this morning–chicken casserole, his favorite. Today would be different. I was sure of it. The drive to Blackwood Empire took fifteen minutes. I hummed a reggae tune under my breath while tapping at the steering with excitement. When I got to his office on the ninth floor, his secretary looked up, startled. "Ms. Lila, I don't think he's—" I walked past her and pushed his office door open. Jason sat at his desk, a glass in his hand. Eyes red, hair messy, heavy bags under his eyes. What the heck?

Adler murmured, angling Jason’s palm toward the light. “It’s fine,” Jason said quickly, trying to pull away. His voice was low, as though he didn’t quite trust it not to shake. “Listen, I know we started off on the wrong foot I’ve—” Adler began. “Exactly. We're literally strangers you don’t need to do anything. I can handle it.” Jason’s eyes flicked up, a flash of nervousness or, maybe just embarrassed. “Just don’t tell Mom. She’ll be mad I broke her glass.”

"Just say yes." She opened her mouth to respond when my phone buzzed in my pocket. I wanted to ignore it. Should've ignored it, but years of conditioning made me check. Jack's name flashed on the screen with a text: "Still at Nocturne? Hope you’re having fun." I stared at the text, then at Nyx. "My partner just checking on me. But Friday? Say yes." Her face had gone pale behind the mask. All the color drained from her skin.

Iris Masked Muse. The username was clear as day, along with the teaser image of my masked face and bare shoulders, save for the faint hint of lace right where my chest was cut off. 'A little teaser for what came next’ I'd called it back when I'd uploaded the photo. It was visible. The notification for tonight’s stream still glowed at the top. Oh God. Heat flooded my cheeks. I dropped to my knees, snatching the phone and clutching it against my chest as if that could erase it.

"Which means all our primary assets Emily, Marcus, and now potentially us are converging on one location. If Catherine's smart, she's set up a killbox." "Or she genuinely wants to talk." I didn't believe that for a second. My phone buzzed. Video message from Jason. He appeared on screen, covered in dust and minor injuries from the blast. "Blake, that explosion was meant to kill me. But someone warned me. Someone who knew Michael's plans. I'm going back to Moscow. I'm done being bait. I want to find my children." The video ended. Jason was going rogue, operating independently now. Another variable I couldn't control.
