Neither of us moved it.
“To be clear,” I said, before it could win, “the cover is a costume. It doesn’t unlock anything. You don’t get to touch me because a concierge is watching. If I want you again, and that is a very theoretical if, I’ll be the one who decides it. Same as the first time.”
“I know.”
“Say it properly.”
“The cover gives me nothing,” he said, even and low. “Whatever happens between us happens because you choose it, or it doesn’t happen. That was true in the dark and it’s true now.”
