I grabbed the wheel with both hands, bracing my feet against the brickwork. I pulled. It didn't budge. "It's stuck!" I screamed, tears of frustration and vertigo streaming down my face.

Caspian shouted, his voice muffled. I landed on the cold stone floor on the other side. The wall slammed shut again with a dull thud. I tried pushing it from inside, but it wouldn’t budge. “Caspian. I stagger back, my chest heaving, my arm trembling as I stare at the damage. The wall is cracked. My knuckles are torn open. Blood drips steadily to the floor. And nothing has changed. She’s still down there. Still scrubbing. Still enduring. And I’m still here. Useless.​
