I crawled and crept, scrubbing over the walls with my fingers, feeling for anything other than a plain stoned wall. Several minutes had gone by and I had lost hope of finding anything that would help me out. I sat by the wall and heaved sigh after sigh. It didn't help that these walls were soundproof. Even if I screamed my lungs out, no one would hear me. The room suddenly became increasingly warm, up until I was drenched in sweat. "What's going on?" I asked myself in panic as the heat intensified. I banged on the door with all the might I could muster while the lights suddenly began the rapidly flicker on and off.

It floated away, bumping into the wall. He grabbed the door handle. He unlocked the deadbolt. He pulled. The door didn't budge. "It's stuck!" Elion yelled. "The wood! It swelled! The water warped the frame!" "Kick it!" Cale shouted. "Leverage!" Elion braced his foot against the jamb. He pulled with both hands. Nothing. It was sealed tight. "It won't open!" Elion cried. The panic was rising in his throat, choking him. "We're trapped!"

His body was curled in a corner, reduced—almost swallowed by the shadows. Paul would not be much help. I lifted my gaze and then saw it: something high on the wall. I couldn’t tell if it was a tiny covered window or a ventilation duct—but it was our only possibility. “Paul, come here.” He didn’t move. “Paul,” I repeated, firmer. A groan answered me. “Yes… Yes, I’m coming.” He stood with difficulty; each movement was accompanied by a pitiful sound. «Patience. I need patience.»

I could feel her eyes rolling, mane unfurling in irritation. But I did have an idea. An idiotic, ridiculous idea… but it was better than waiting to get caught. The walls narrowed as the dead end met. I lacked the strength I needed but with my body withered down to bones, this might just work. I propped one leg on the side of the wall as my forearm and shoulder braced the opposite wall. I shimmied myself up and placed my right leg against the concrete wall, spreading my arms between the two slats. I maneuvered up again and as my bare foot moved to propel myself upward, it slipped, throwing me back into the waste below with a deafening splash.

I voiced. “Then you haven't allowed yourself to have a door. Don't be scared. Let yourself have a door.” I focused on the walls. Make a door? How do I do that? I squeezed my eyes shut, taking a deep breath, teaching myself not to be scared of the past actions that will be forever drilled into my head. I opened my eyes again to reveal the cement wall still there and searched the perimeter again. This time, there was a knob sticking out of one of the blocks. Taking another deep breath, I grabbed the handle, twisted it, and pulled on the door.

"Jodi is that you?" "Nick!?" I stuck my ear to the wall listening for a reply. "It's me baby, how'd you do?" Nick answered, clenching my system out of worry. "I'm fine. I've done it Nick! Oh god, I thought I was lost. I don't know how to get in there though." The wall went quiet and I waited intently for a reply. "How about a brick?" offered Logan on the other side. "It's a plane wall, cement, there's also nothing attached to it." I said examining the wall.
