Draven’s voice was low, smooth, but the underlying tension was undeniable.
Kael glanced at Vanessa, then stood up. "I’ll leave you two to talk."
Vanessa didn’t move as Kael exited, his heavy footsteps fading down the corridor. Draven’s gaze remained fixed on her, as though he could see straight through to her soul.
"Are you all right?" he asked, his voice softening.
Vanessa swallowed the lump in her throat. "I should be asking you that."
He stepped closer, the heat from his body radiating through the air. She didn’t back away. Instead, she met his gaze, feeling that strange, undeniable pull between them.
