Beautiful. I opened my eyes and looked at the Veil tear hovering before us. It was worse than I expected. The wound stretched twenty feet across, edges ragged and bleeding darkness into reality. He started pulling me forward quickly, and Cane followed right beside us. “Did you think Obsidian Veil was just an ordinary name?” Caden asked without looking at me. “I don’t know,” I said honestly. “Nobody explained anything to me properly.” “There is a Veil,” he said. “A barrier that hides this place from human eyes. It keeps the world separated. What you see here is only visible because you have been brought inside the protected territory.”

“The Veil itself must be weakening.” Luna frowned. “You keep saying ‘the Veil.’ What exactly is it?” Eldric walked toward one of the glowing windows overlooking the city. “The Veil is the barrier between our world and the Shadow Realm.” Luna slowly absorbed the words. “So basically… a giant magical wall?” “Yes.” “And if it breaks?” Eldric turned back to her. “The Shadow King and his armies will flood into this world.” Luna sighed. “No pressure.” Kael placed a hand on the table.

I said truthfully. "Yeah but I have to put this on you." She brought out a black small veil from her purse. "As in a blind fold?" "Yes, I need to blind fold you." She said and I don't like blindfolds but I don't want to complain. I want her to do everything she has planned to do, just the way she planned it. "I hate blindfolds but okay." I turned slightly and she put the veil and all I can see is pitch black.

Then I set the phone down and got up. The sun was starting to move across the kitchen wall, catching on the edge of my discarded wedding veil on the counter. I’d brought it home last week after the final fitting. I picked it up now, ran my fingers over the delicate lace. A few days ago, I’d imagined walking down the aisle wearing it. Now it felt like someone else’s dream. Someone I used to be. In the middle of that thought, the TV in the living room flickered on. I hadn’t touched the remote. It was the news feed that auto-played sometimes when my cable restarted.

Learn. And then the beast vanished. It was sudden, almost imperceptible, leaving only the echo of its movement and the lingering scent of blood. The forest fell silent again, but the danger didn’t feel gone. Evelyn’s knees buckled, and Kael caught her, holding her steady. Her gaze darted around the shadows, searching, and there—behind a thick cluster of oaks—two crimson eyes glimmered one final time before disappearing completely into the darkness. “Did… did it leave?” Jonah breathed, voice shaky.

I open my eyes and take the card out of the blinding glow, and as my brain registers the card it looks blank, but I do as tradition states, spin around and hold it in the air for all to see. The gasps and the yelling starts, and I don’t understand why, so I bring the card down to my eye level and watch it. The card is black with what looks like six white silhouettes on it. There are colors beginning to swirl within each of the white silhouettes. Glancing up I see six figures walking toward me, but I can’t make out who they are. “Mistress to the Veil! The whore and her men must be sacrificed! You know the law! Kill the betrayers!”

Veil couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to his continued business relations with them than met the eye. After a few more exchanges of words, Veil yawned from exhaustion, unable to stop herself. Mumbling a half-assed apology, she reached for the glass on the table at the same time Anders stretched out his hand. Veil withdrew her hands at once, electricity jolting through her.

She is too dirty. “I will kill you if your tears dare drop on my shoes,” I threaten. “Do you want to stain my shoe with those dirty tears of yours?” She immediately stops crying and wipes away her tears. It is silent now. “On your feet,” I growl. “Do you see this veil? I’m covering your eyes with it because you have no right to see me naked.”

He only brought it up as a bluff, a threat. Helen stepped into the room only to see Nathaniel's pallor. "You look terrible. Is something wrong?" The rims of Nathaniel's eyes were tinged with redness, and he looked at Helen. She shared my resemblance, but that was where the similarities came to an end. The loving relationship he had, he had it with me. Our relationship was irreplaceable, or it was supposed to be. His hands tightened around the divorce papers. 'Why'd I mistake her for Ginny?
