She wondered where they all were. They entered another room, the floor sloping gently downward, and she gasped. This small room was filled with treasures. It was a working museum, and they were all encased carefully behind glass. Right there before her, under sharp, halogen lights, were what must have been hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of ancient, priceless treasures. Gold crosses. Large, silver goblets. Medieval manuscripts…. She followed Caleb as he walked through the room and stopped before a long, vertical, glass case. Inside was a magnificent ivory staff, several feet long. He stared at it through the glass.

Caitlin sat in her large room in Dunvegan in Castle at a writing desk, looking out the window at the sunset sky. She examined the torn page McCleod had given her, holding it up to the light. She slowly ran her fingertips along the embossed, Latin letters. They looked and felt ancient. The entire page was so beautifully and intricately designed, and she marveled at the intricate colors along the paper’s edges. Back then, she realized, books were made to be works of art in and of themselves.

Walking to check each segment of the library and making sure I was the only one inside, I came back to my chair. “Mom, Dad. Just wait, I’m coming for you,” I said, fisting my hands in determination. Sitting on the chair, I reached for my hair, rolling it into a messy bun before commencing. “War strategies and battles of the Shrekers Kingdom,” I read, “These battle strategies have been used by top warlords and if you are reading now, you must have reached a fighting peak. This is why your master’s gave you access to this book, congratulations,”

It was one of the twins. I stood up and opened the door before I saw Becca holding a book and Ruth carrying Everest. “How can I help you girls?” I asked. Becca raised the book; it was a children’s book ‘All Alien needs is a friend’ by Mitsuki Bethan. I smiled as I took the book and stared down at the girls. “Mummy won’t be doing story time soon.” Ruth explained. “Come in. Just give me a moment to shower and change.” I said as they walked in.

The cover was old, the edges worn. Gold lettering barely visible.

They both gazed at each other, the silence getting awkward by each passing second. Elizabeth squeezed her book against her chest. “Well, I should go now,” she finally broke the silence.
