DESMOND “Your ex-wife seems to be doing pretty well for herself these days,” Victor remarked as he settled onto the bar stool beside me. He placed his phone on the counter and pushed it in my direction. “That’s her, isn’t it?” I hesitated for a moment before reaching for the device, a video already playing. “Selling a single painting for ten million?” Victor let out a low whistle. “She must be ridiculously rich now.” I barely heard him.

The laugh lines at his eyes were proof he’d lived, laughed, won. And the way he carried himself… Jesus. Like gravity bent around him. Like he walked into rooms knowing every woman in them would notice, and every man would measure himself against him and come up short. Victor had Marcus at twenty. Victor was barely out of his teens when he got his high-school sweetheart pregnant and did the right thing. He married Marcus' mom at twenty-one, built a life and turned a small real-estate hustle into a billion-dollar empire while raising a kid and apparently never letting himself go soft.

As for Victor? He was just a trust-fund brat at best. He had nothing on me. I would sooner save my respect for his father. Victor sneered, "Such arrogance! You really think you're some hot shit, don't you? But what's the point of this macho pageantry anyway? What do you actually have—resources, finances, substance? "My family's wealth is more than you could ever imagine! The gift I gave Mrs. McKay is worth 28k dollars! Do you even have that much in your savings?"

“What was your relationship?” Victor smiles faintly. “Mutual ambition.” Marcus sighs. “That always ends badly.” Victor continues. “I needed access to Reyes Holdings. And she had it.” The detective writes something down. “But she didn’t tell you about her past with Adrian.” Victor shakes his head. “No.” The detective glances toward the glass. Toward Adrian. “She kept that quiet.” Victor nods. “Yes.” Marcus leans closer to me. “So basically… Victor thought they were building a corporate empire.”

After saying that, I didn’t spare my collapsed mother another glance and turned to leave. Behind me came her desperate wailing. “What a curse! How did I give birth to such a heartless daughter!” Victor’s two-million-dollar riverfront house didn’t last long after all. Because of the company’s claim against him for financial misconduct, he was facing enormous compensation payments. On top of that, his earlier livestream stunt had caused fluctuations in the Rivers Group’s stock price. The legal department actually filed a lawsuit against him, demanding compensation for reputational damage. The amount was astronomical.

Just a few days ago, Romero Empire had a net worth of over ten billion, today, after so many investors have withdrawn their investment, it merely graced 3 billion dollars. So, looking at the figure in front of him, with that in mind, Melvin felt like a rock had just suddenly been dumped on his head. 1.92 Billion dollars wasn't money to be played about with and the painful fact is that there was no way they could avoid this case as long as it was Gabriel Bryce filling for a suit.

I say. “Enough at the time,” he says. “Enough that anyone looking at it from the outside would have said it was a fair deal. Victor walked away with money he had never had before in his life and I kept the company and I grew it into what it is now.” “But he doesn’t think it was fair,” I say.

Alexander purred and at first Vic smiled, but soon felt the atmosphere in the room change as Rocco and his yet to be named counterpart stalked forward until they were both perched on the edge of her father’s desk. “I see.” Vic said with a calm but dark tone. She tried not to let her shame show as she sat forward with squared shoulders and folded her hands into her lap. “How much did he owe you?” she asked and was rewarded with the human bookends chuckling darkly. Vic didn’t look up, but she watched Alexander Volkov through her peripheral as he sat forward and rested his elbows on his knees. “Your father was indebted to me for exactly seven billion dollars Miss Bura.” he finished. Vic took a

“The debt is high,” Victor growled. “You never be able to pay such a huge amount of debt after what your sister has done. If only you two had done more for the company, things might have been a lot different.” The remark was hardly justified and Melvin knew it. Victor had never really considered them and his generosity with money had been largely to satisfy his ego. A show of affluence had always pleased him and it raised his prestige in Michigan. He had been quite never satisfied with his Money and he firmly believed, money was the only power, and it had been a great shock to him to find himself virtually without it.

“And, so, it’s going to cost you. It’s a great inconvenience for me, to lose such a valuable member of my pack, to go through so much trouble.” “How much, Wellington.” “Twenty million,” Wellington says, his voice firm, smug. “And, I want the credit for the school that you’re starting. You foot the bill, but you publicly announce that I’m the brains behind the operation, and that I will be acting Head Master.” Victor pulls the phone away from his face, pressing the mute button as fast as he can so that he can hide the roar that pulls from his chest. This man – the audacity – such an insane price. Victor raises the phone back to his ear, breathing hard.
