He simply gave a curt nod, turned on his heel, and strode out, the sound of his footsteps fading rapidly. I sank back into my chair, a trembling smile spreading across my face. He hadn't recoiled. Without another word, he led her across the living room toward the wide hallway that led to his master bedroom.
