I wink at them, glad for my own little peanut gallery. As we finish up breakfast, Victor confers with the Betas and I overhear him telling them to pack up camp.

The scent of coffee and bacon filled the air as he took the covers off plates of fluffy scrambled eggs and toast. Victor climbed back into the bed, and we talked while we ate. “What are we doing today?” I asked. “Findlay arranged for us to have VIP passes to Funland,” Victor replied. “Get ready to ride that roller coaster.” As we finished our breakfast, there was a knock on the door. Victor hurried to answer it and returned to the bedroom waving an envelope. Our passes to the amusement park had arrived! I giggled and ran to get dressed in jeans and a peasant blouse.

A soft knock sounded on the door. Victor stepped in with a tray of fresh fruit, toast, eggs, and coffee. He kept his eyes down, professional as always. “Breakfast for you ma'am. Chapter 4 The Mountains The next morning the camp was buzzing with the excitement of the impending battle. Victor had gone scouting and returned to say that there was an enemy encampment not far away and that if they were quick, they could take the enemy by surprise. They were quick. The battle was fast with few casualties. The enemy soldiers, when they saw Mikail’s men bearing down on them, decided to flee.

Reluctantly, Arthur covered her hand in his, giving it a firm shake. "And I look forward to working with you," Victory continued warmly. "Word on the street is that you eat children for breakfast and breathe fire to anyone who dares to mention your name, thus solidifying your status as an unknown recluse. Having sat next to you this past hour, I find my flesh to be of room temperature and you appear to enjoy eating chicken and pudding instead of small children."
