Virginia Woolf Quotes About Life Novels & Stories

“But don’t you and Dad worry about it. Relax and enjoy your trip while I spend some time thinking things through. Then, after this, we can all sit down and discuss it. Does that sound good?” Her daughter had always been opinionated growing up, so external challenges rarely changed anything she decided. Remembering this brought a shade of resignation to Mrs. Carraway’s face, but she tried anyway, “Listen, Viv, the key to a life fulfilling and happy is to look beyond what’s in front of you no matter how tantalizing and dazzling the present may be. Liam is a good boy. You might regret the rest of your life for missing him, you know.”

She found Joel still seated comfortably as he bobbed his head to the music in his ears. Shooting him a killing look, she sat on one of the chairs close to the door. The motivational posters of various colours that decorated the sky-blue painted walls caught her attention. And most of them, she observed, contained quotes from famous people. Some she had heard of and some she had read about. "A woman is like a tea bag; you never know how strong it is until it's in hot water." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt. That one made her smile. “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." ~ Nelson Mandela

“I like entertaining old women.” “I think you use it as an excuse to avoid interacting with anyone your age. Especially anyone male.” Martha’s expression softened. “I know how much you loved my son. I miss him too, every day. But I knew the day that I lost my dear Harold that you can’t stop living life when you lose people. Because then what’s the point of living?” Violet’s throat closed. Was she avoiding living life, even two years later? It was true that she hadn’t looked at a man since William’s death. It would feel like a betrayal. She twisted her wedding ring, which she continued to wear every day, around her finger.

I said. Comfortable silence engulfed us as we enjoyed our morning. He stretched his arms and I secretly clicked his photos as he enjoyed his time. “Let’s go on a vacation, Livy.” He said tilting his head to face me. “A vacation? The idea sounds great but shall we wait until this current crisis is over?” “Life is too short to wait, Olivia. I have wasted a very precious time when we could make memories. Speaking of the problems in our lives, they won’t be over until our last breath. This is human life. We just need a little escape for a while.”

A few people laughed softly, and I knew perfectly well it wasn’t because I was funny. Vittoria didn’t laugh. “Modern women do love to keep busy,” she said, folding her napkin. “It leaves them very little time to think about more important things.” I took a sip of my mineral water and smiled at her. “Good thing I’m talented enough to multitask, Nonna.” Vittoria looked at me for a few seconds longer, like she were deciding on the most elegant method of murder. “We all have different definitions of talent.” My smile turned sweeter. “That’s what makes the world interesting.”

I take a breather when the waiter returns with two cups of espresso and a bottle of Chardonnay, accompanied with one glass. “You talk a big game, but realistically thinking it will be impossible.” Violetta address me from behind the espresso cup, while Giulia gets acquainted with the bottle of wine not seemingly interested in what we were talking about. “Respectfully said, sir.” Violette adds quickly. “Impossibility is only plausible to someone who doesn’t use their mind to dream or doesn’t feel worthy of succeeding.” I correct her. “Everything I have in mind is possible.” “And who will fund this craziness?”

She was simply telling the truth. “I’ve always believed staying busy solved everything.” “And does it?” I looked toward the fountain. “No.” The answer came easier than expected. “It keeps problems waiting.” “It doesn’t make them disappear.” She smiled knowingly. “My grandmother used to say something similar.” “What?” “‘Even the strongest tree needs time to enjoy the rain.’” I chuckled. “That’s surprisingly poetic.” “It didn’t make sense to me as a child.” “And now?” She looked toward the darkening sky. “I think she meant that life shouldn’t only be about surviving.”

"I meant that you deserve something of your own. Something that is not connected to me or Silas or your father's memory. Something that is just yours." Vienna looked at their intertwined fingers. "I have been taking care of other people my whole life. I do not know how to do something just for me." "Then learn. I will help you." "How?" "However you need. Time. Space. Money. Connections. Whatever it takes." Vienna was quiet for a long moment. She looked at the river. At the city lights. At the man who had given her everything. "I want to write," she said. "Write what?"

"She always quotes wise sayings. I have never known her to be at loss for one suitable to any circumstance. I was brought up on them. I suppose one is never prepared to take anything on trust. One always has to learn in the end by bitter experience" "Life is a series of experiences" Joey remarked. "If we reacted entirely according to a book of rules, there would be no progress. The only point in life is to learn and, without the incentive to find out things for oneself, one would be of no more use to humanity than a cow" Penny smiled and rose to her feet. "This cow needs a cup of tea" she said. "I expect Audrey will be wondering what has happened to us"

she took a deep breath and continued. "Lilie, don't end your life, our life is like a book. If page one damages you, on the next page you move it is written with happiness. Don't let your past ruin you and your future," the woman said and smiled at me. When I heard that I was just stunned. I shook and laughed out loud. They do not know what I feel. She can say that because she is not in my position. She has no idea how I feel. Why does it seem so easy for them to say such things like that?
