Her eyes, half-open, do not meet mine, and her face is ghostly pale, her lips tinged with blue, almost unrecognizable in its fragility.
The car jolts violently over the bumpy trail, and I feel her body thrown forward and backward, but I try to shield her with my arms. The forest around us seems to close in, the tall trees rising like sinister towers against the sky. Their twisted trunks and thick branches block out the sun, turning the path into a trail of shadows. The crimson-tinted sunset spills over the leaves, staining the horizon with a tragic and heavy hue.
