The words hit me like a blow, but I couldn’t dwell on them—Draven was already moving again, faster than before.
He feinted toward Vlad, then twisted, blade aimed for my ribs. I met him mid-step, whipping the titanium around his sword arm. He tried to wrench free, but Vlad was there, teleporting in a flash of shadow and slamming a knee into Draven’s gut.
The impact forced him back, but not far enough.
“Go,” Vlad ordered, eyes never leaving Draven.
I shook my head. “Not leaving you with him.”
Before we could argue, the ground between us cracked open, a surge of heat and shadow blasting upward. From the rift, a wave of corrupted magic spilled into the air, heavy and choking.
