“We weren’t bred for this.”
It was Kofi who broke the silence. He stood off to the side, massive arms folded across his barrel chest, a cigarette hanging from his lips, smoke curling in the cold air. He took a drag, exhaled, and shook his head.
“There’s still magic in the world,” he rumbled, his voice deep as rolling thunder. “Old magic. My people call it voodoo. Some use it for healing, for light. Others twist it dark, turn it cruel. It’s not dead, it just lives quiet. I don’t mess with it.”
