“Nirvonth has returned. But he could not find Xavier. It seems your Alpha left Orheroad days ago.” Valerie’s lips parted in surprise. She hesitated on the news for a long moment, then she asked, “Where did Xavier go?” I shook my head, not knowing the answer. “Nirvonth said only that his Beta refused to cooperate. He would not elaborate on his Alpha’s location.” I watched her lower her gaze as she processed the words. At the mention of her Alpha, Valerie’s mask seemed to crack, just a little. Again, she was biting her lip.

As I got closer, the contents of the tanks became clear. They were wolves. Werewolves. In the first tank, a malformed creature with oversized claws and no skin floated in green liquid. In the next, a perfect human child with wolf ears, dead. In the third... I stopped. The face in the third tank was familiar. It was younger, softer, but unmistakable. It was Valerius. Or rather, a Valerius. "Subject V-748," Ben Carter read the plaque aloud, his voice devoid of emotion, purely analytical. "Defect: Aggression centers unstable. IQ below threshold. Disposition: Incinerated."

No wonder they came up with something new every single day. This neighborhood, I realized, was Valen's infamous red-light district—a cesspool of society's dregs. Good-for-nothings who spent their days drifting from one sleazy joint to another. Whenever they ran out of money, they'd shoot another video. Julian asked in exasperation, "Do you not know what car this is?" Valerie nodded. "I see lots of people driving this around. It probably isn't that expensive." "Remember this, Valerie. This is a Volkswagen Phaeton." Valerie nodded. "Is this more expensive than my husband's Black Badge?"

Rex manged to say, holding unto his stomach. "One thing she despises is an attack on humans. Let the both of them go or you will be creating problems for your pack. You know nothing is hidden under the sun, we know your hideouts" "Fall back" Rex finally said after being intimidated with the indirect threat. Val was shoved out angrily out of the car whilst one of Raven's men helped him remove the celotape from his mouth also untying him quickly. They vanished immediately leaving the both of us to find our way back.

"Use some of that time for this conversation." Something moved through his expression. "After," he said again. Like a commitment. "After," I said. Below us the first report came through Xavier's phone the eastern approach, Valen's forward line making contact with Calder's people at the wood's edge.

Alpha Tiberius said causing me to grow a confused face. “Fox?” I asked softly with a tilt of my head. Everyone’s eyes were suddenly on me causing me to flinch and hope I didn’t make a mistake. “Yes, Valerian only smells human. He is actually the last remaining arctic fox shifter. He saved Jax’s life when they were 12. Jax swore for years that Valerian was his future mate because of that. Let me tell you, that fox was little, but brave” Alpha Tiberius said as he grabbed the empty chair and sat down. Armand spoke up next with excitement in his voice.

I groaned, refusing to go out. Val stopped, and her eyes started to water, "but it's Christmas; even Daddy agreed to come down." She whined, I was surprised at the fact that she was already calling Xander Daddy. What did I miss? "Daddy?" I repeated, surprised. "Yes, since Vance's daddy is my daddy, I should call him Daddy. Vance and I agree to share daddy and mummy." She excitedly said bubbling with too much energy. Val didn't take no for an answer and didn't stop until I agreed to go with her.
