I wake with a start, my heart pounding in my chest, as though someone has just jolted me from a deep, suffocating sleep. The room feels off, quiet in a way that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. My senses prick, sharp and alert, as though some invisible force is pressing down on me, urging me to wake fully.

I woke up screaming. My body jerked upright in bed, my chest heaving, my heart pounding so hard it felt like it might break out of my ribs. My whole body was shaking. My hands trembled as I clutched at the sheets, grounding myself, reminding myself that I was here. That it wasn’t happening again.

Is he drunk? However, I knew better and chose to not entertain his words. After dinner, I immediately went up to my room to wash up. “Get a grip and calm the fuck down.” I scolded myself. I felt my chest thundering and breathed slowly to keep calm. How is it possible to have your heart racing so fast with just hearing those stupid words? “Unbelievable! I must be crazy.” I whispered to myself. I sat down on the edge of my bed, staring at the floor with a troubled look.

" | slowly lifted my eyes to his and | breath caught in my throat, he was so close. So stinking close that if | moved my head up an inch, our lips would connect. "| promise you | won't let them hurt you, okay? You're safe with me." Then he pulled me into an embrace and squeezed tight. | gave in and tucked my head into his shoulder, letting the tears fall slowly. "No more competing, yeah?" he asked. | nodded. The next couple of days were pure torture. | couldn't sleep, and could barely eat. Every noise | heard would make me paranoid. | didn't bother going to the gym, and Swayer has been forcing me to call him every time | go out somewhere, which isn't often.

That's a good sign. 3:01 AM My chest felt tight, my body burned and ached all over it felt like I was in a burning furnace while being stoned with rocks. But I'm asleep, right? So what is going on? I turned on my bed, trying to force myself back into a deep slumber but it wasn't working, my breathing turned heavy and my heart raced. I could feel my chest splitting. No… it can't be… I woke up with a start, shooting upright. My pulse jumped as I realized what was going on.

Barbara’s POV I woke up with a sharp gasp. My body jerked upright before my mind could catch up, my hand flying straight to my chest as if I could physically hold my heart in place. It was racing and pounding too fast, too hard which felt so wrong. For a few seconds, I couldn’t breathe. The room spun slightly, the walls tilting in and out of focus as I tried to steady myself. My fingers dug into my shirt, right over my heart, as if that would calm it down.

ALARIC. I woke up to my heart pounding very loudly in my chest. My eyes were wide open and I was gasping for breath while sweating at the same time. It seemed as if I had been plunged into very icy water. I still remembered a bit of it vividly, and even as I sat there it felt as if I wasn't awake yet, as if I was still going through the nightmare and running from my worst fears. I had no idea why it kept coming back even when i thought it was just something that i didn't have to take serious at all.

I step into the hallway, heart racing, skin buzzing, knowing one thing with terrifying clarity. Something just woke up inside me.

Zahra's POV I wake with a gasp. My heart is pounding, my breath dragging in short, painful gasps. My chest feels restricted, like something heavy is pressing down on it. My eyes adjust slowly to the dim lighting, shapes sharpening out of the haze, and the unfamiliar room makes every muscle in my body tense. After that dream, my nerves are raw and frayed, and the quiet beeping in the background grates on me until I realise it matches the frantic rhythm of my heart.

I wake up really early today. My heart races with excitement at the thought of finally meeting Richie and spending some quality time together. Last night, I toss and turn in bed, unable to settle down. The thrill of seeing him has been building up inside me, and I can’t help but wonder how today is going to unfold.
