She didn’t know for how long she had been walking and her legs were already starting to ache but she does not seem to care as her only goal was to just keep walking, to wherever her legs would take her. As she continued to walk, her legs wobbled till the heel of one of the shoes she was wearing finally broke off but that was not enough to stop her from walking either. Instead, she let the shoe slip away from her foot and then, she eventually let the other one go. Now, she walked barefooted and ignored the stares of the people on the streets, staring at her.

But standing here now made it look almost modest. As I admired the scale of it, reality tugged me back, people passing by had started to stare. It didn’t take long for me to realize why. I glanced down at my feet. My shoes were dangling from my hand, and I stood there barefoot on the polished stone. Earlier, on my mad dash across the street, I’d broken my toenail badly. The pain had been so sharp it made me limp, and the only thing that felt bearable was to take the heels off entirely. But now, about to walk into a company like this, I knew showing up barefoot was worse than limping.

I decided to take it slow rather than risk slipping on the wet streets and embarrassing myself. I walked for what felt like an eternity, enduring the relentless downpour, until I finally reached her heels. I sighed when my eyes caught their sight. I have never touched the shoes of even my grandfather and I don't know which life revenge this girl is taking from me. The one who doesn't reach even my shoulder is making me dance on her little finger. Gingerly, I hooked my finger into the heels, making sure they didn't touch my pants. As I made my way back to the car, rainwater was soaking me to the bone.

“Okay. I guess you’ll need some time getting used to those shoes. I’ll be going then.” I just nodded. That gay kept running his mouth as he pleased. Girl, I can feed you to the sharks! I stumbled a lot as I tried to practice walking. Never did I expect I had to learn to walk again. Huhu. Can’t I just wear my doll shoes? “Don’t put all your weight to your feet. Straighten you poise and walk like you’re in the air! What mountain did you come from anyway?” “Sorry. But I can wear flat shoes too.”

I felt rejuvenated. Then my Father's words clicked at the back of my head "There's still hope" The people that were with me in the room stood up and moved towards the light. I followed treading carefully in their midst. My left leg moved slowly towards my right leg as I walked bare on the naked floor. Gone was my bata my pair of shoes my father had woven with the palm fronds. I can't seem to remember or trace a moment it got lost. Staring at my feet, I noticed others too. Blizzard on their feet leaving red gaits on the floor. The person at my front was limping. I think an inclusion had dented the sole of his leg. I moved to his side and examined his face. His eyes winced on every step he too

“I believe I am going to take a walk” “I don’t wish to walk”. He mumbles. “That works out perfectly then, as I prefer to go alone”. He doesn’t try to stop me, for which I am immensely grateful, as I push myself to my feet and walk to the edge of the beach where the water laps at the shore. I had removed my shoes earlier so they wouldn’t become filled with sand, and now I wade out until the water swirls about my ankles. I do not care if my hem gets wet. It will dry.

I went to the other door and went out. I gasped for air because I couldn't breathe. I saw my feet bleeding too but I don’t feel the pain. I didn't even know that I had wounds on my feet until I saw the blood. Where am I? What kind of place is this? I asked myself because it seems that this place is a never-ending agony. I walked again to find a way out. I know I can get out of here because I don’t belong here. I keep on walking and walking. I saw my blood leave a mark on the grains from each step that I made and I feel like my feet and legs are getting numb but that’s okay. I continue walking because I really want to get out of this place.

*Me walking out of an elevator on heels,I was in such an hurry to get some files to mom in her office, I didn’t look where I was going and I didn’t realize that the janitor was still cleaning, she had a bucket at the entrance of the Elevator and the floor was still quite wet from her cleaning, in haste to get to mom I kicked the bucket the janitor careless left lying in front of the elevator , being on heels made it worse, not only did I trip, the dirty water also poured all over my clothes and I slipped messing up the whole floor and ofcourse I went home with a broken ankle I could barely walk without crutches for days* I exhaled deeply as I remembered the particular incident my heart breat

Just as this thought crossed my mind, rain began to pour down on me. As the ground became slippery, walking in my heels grew increasingly difficult. Sighing, I stooped down and took off my shoes, electing to carry them and walk in my bare feet. I prayed that I would reach my car soon so that I could crank up the heater and have some semblance of warmth.

My shoes were a mistake. Don’t get me wrong, they looked great. Everything I was wearing looked great. But the spike heels kept sinking into the gravel path. I had to pull them out with every step, giving me this weird marching walk. I didn’t let it slow me down. If I slowed down, someone would try to take my arm, and if someone took my arm, I’d probably have to hit them. “Savvie darling, wait up!”
