SCARLETT I was walking over black water. It was only deep enough to come up to my ankles. But, it was cold—stinging cold. I didn’t know how or when I got here but I had been walking for a long time without stopping. There was light waiting for me at the end in the form of a silver wolf with green eyes peering back at me. Desperate to reach her, I broke into a sprint. I ran, neared her, and found her getting far from me again.

"Why don't you do the honors, Alpha?" Gabriel nodded in thanks to Vance as he turned the paper right side up and began to read. "To Gabriel Herman and the Strays, we welcome you as the newest confirmed shifter pack of Arizona. We have accepted your proposal, and Vance Skeen has been voted as Gabriel's Beta. We wish you all the best on your first few steps forward as a pack." As cheers spread throughout the wolf shifters, Gabriel couldn't help but smile and pulled Vance into a hug. "Thanks, man. Summer POV I’d thrown up twice since seeing the tail in the soggy cardboard box. Ezra rushed me into the house and forced me to drink a cup of water. The team gathered in the kitchen, minus Estelle because Hunter took her away when my Grandfather showed up out of the blue. “Who sent it?” Ezra demanded. “The funny thing is it has the scent of wolves from this Pack,” Walker said. He was a blond-haired man about two years older than me but he was a hard worker. I heard he didn’t care whose toes he stepped on as long as it got him to where he wanted to be.

He stood and waited for an answer. “Yes, Alpha. They won't leave our site.” The scout replied, still hunched over like the hunchback of Notre dame. The giant of a man then walked into the trees and disappeared. I guessed that had been Driscoll and I couldn't lie, he was scary, intimidating and powerful. You could feel the strength and power ooze off of the guy. His strong scent filled the air and for once in my life, I was scared of something. If I was defeated by him, he would kill me. I didn't care about dying for Aubrey, but if I did, obviously the future I'd planned for her would be lost. She would probably end up with Chase and she’d be by his side until he cheated or got bored of her.

Tears are at the brink of my eyes as I clutch onto his arms. “ You are not telling me what happened. Relax Scarlet, and tell me everything.” he says, caressing his fingers around my face. “ The book..” I begin as I still can’t imagine it or was I in a trance or something? “ What?” he frowns, trying to understand what I’m about to say. “ Noah, the book Michelle usually spoke about.. the book about a werewolf falling in love with a sorcerer. I heard the book speaking.” I gulp down as my voice becomes clearer.

Finally, when she called Alex, she noticed how his tone changed as soon as he heard that Scarlett was missing. —How long has she been gone? —Alex asked, worried. The aunt explained, and without saying another word, Alex hung up. He went straight to the school, running to Scarlett’s locker. Without hesitation, he struck it hard, breaking it open, and took one of her sweaters. Then he ran into the forest with a single thought in mind: someone had discovered the book. He transformed into a wolf, sniffed the sweater, and began tracking her scent through the woods. Finally, he found her, wandering alone deep in a dark, isolated part of the forest.
