I was at the mercy of the wreckage, at the mercy of the accident. As I lay there, I saw Sophia's face, saw the look of satisfaction in her eyes. She was the one who had hit me, who had caused the accident. And now, she was just standing there, watching me suffer. I tried to speak, tried to call out to her. But my voice was hoarse, my words barely audible. Sophia looked at me, looked into my eyes. And then, she turned and walked away, leaving me to die. I couldn't believe it. Sophia, the woman I had thought I loved, had just tried to kill me. And now, she was just walking away, without even trying to help me.

I stammered in shock. They were talking about Sophia's mom. Dead body. No. Reality punched me in the stomach like a fist. Cindy and my mom weren't talking about a theoretical war strategy. They were talking about a massacre. A cold-blooded premeditated attack on defenseless human beings. On Sophia's folk. I curled my fists into tight knots, claws aching to burst out in fury boiling in my veins. I'd have liked to rip in there, demand—rip Cindy limb from limb for daring to speak Sophia's name so contemptuously.

Leonard ignored my students' desperate pleas. She was rushed to the hospital due to massive blood loss, but the doctors declared her beyond saving. Helpless, the maids who stayed by her side brought her to the lab, knowing that the only thing that might still save her was the cryogenic chamber.

I backed away with splattered all over the wooden floor. My eyes flew to Sophia. She lay lifeless on the floor beside the pool of blood. My biggest nightmare had happened. I had killed her.

"You're supposed to be" She stopped abruptly. "Dead?" Sophia finished. "I was. Got better." The heart monitor started beeping faster. A nurse rushed in, giving us a sharp look. "Everyone out. Mrs. Sterling needs rest." In the hallway, I grabbed Sophia's arm. "What the hell was that?"

"What're ya getting at?" "Sophia Evergreen drops today. But her end won't be calm. Won't be done. She'll hang between breathing and gone. Not here or there. Hurting forever. And you'll see it. He was standing in one corner, letting the doctors do there job. After several more attempts, the head doctor turned to look at William with a sad face. "I am sorry your highness. It has been more than an hour already since she passed away. We.. we tried everything but we are already too late. She had a major cardiac arrest, perhaps on her way to the farmhouse and died in sleep." William stood there motionlessly, simply looking at Sophia's face. She looked lile she was in a deep sleep, while her beautiful face looked at peace. "Try.. try.. try again doctor..please... she is my life.. please... try try again."
