Fireballs were shot from one side to the other, arrows were flung in all directions, in some places, there was hand-to-hand combat taking place, making it hard to tell which soul was the demon and which was the angel. I saw Hex in his wendigo form, skeletal with patches of fur and the skull of a woodland creature on its neck. He was tearing people in half as they charged at him, having them disappear and leaving only dust behind. I looked around frantically for Abby, but the scene surrounding me suddenly turned blurry, and only a familiar voice snapped me back to my senses.

A few of the dark figures stepped out of the shadowy darkness and got close enough for her to see. Suddenly, she understood the term hellhound. Dead werewolves in wolf form, shadow demons animating them. It made her hair stand on end. Other things stepped out of the shadows. Something that looked like a monster made of rock and dripping mud. We were out of options, and it felt like the end. But then, another ear-piercing cry of agonising pain echoed through the realm. It was so loud, so visceral, that we both opened our eyes in shock. Black, sticky blood splattered over Rae, coating her fur and my vision with its dark, oily texture. In front of us, a larger demonic hellhound had appeared. It was a monstrous beast, even more terrifying than the winged creature. Its eyes glowed with an unholy light, and its jaws were filled with razor-sharp teeth. The hellhound had caught the winged beast in its powerful jaws and was tearing into it with a ferocity that was both horrifying and mesmerising.

They were tiptoeing when there was a sudden loud bang, like a sound of a drum or a gong. Aiko was quick to pull Kalli behind the bushes. Their eyes widened to see who are making the noises. Kalli bit the side of his fist to stop himself from making any noise while he also covered Aiko’s mouth as she was about to scream. The entities are roaming the street, they are wearing a white long tunic with hood over their heads but they do not have distinct features because their faces have melted. Behind them is a boar-like creature which is emitting a stinky smell. Aiko removed Kalli’s hand and pulled her shirt collar up to her face to smell the detergent she used on it just so she won't puke. They’

The elder’s skeletal frame began to shift as he roared, “I’ll show you my true power!” He opened his skeletal jaws and began muttering a strange incantation. Adrian’s eyes narrowed with surprise as a rift opened in the void, and from it emerged another skeletal creature. “What… Is that a hellhound?” Adrian murmured. The creature, resembling a large, menacing dog, trembled with a terrible aura. Adrian recognized it instantly as a hellhound, a beast he had encountered before. The elder looked smug, though momentarily taken aback by Adrian’s recognition. “So you know what it is. That’s right, it’s a hellhound, and a signal that your end has arrived.”

His long fingernails drummed on the armrest. The aura he emitted was cold and dark and most creatures and humans were too whimsical to even go near him. A vicious-looking hellhound who was at least 8-9 feet in height and 9 in length with a sharp set of teeth was huddled on its haunches near his feet. Its leathery skin was black with hints of red along its elongated jaw, paws and head. The beady eyes that were fixated on the newcomer were crimson with swirls of gold in them. Its long ears perked up as its owner traced his bony hand along his body.

“Hellhounds?” I ask, slowly, not sure if my hearing is working correctly. “What exactly are – I thought they were stories. I mean, aren’t they just myths?” I can hear the sounds of ripping flesh behind me and despite my identity as a wolf shifter along with the darker impulses it brings, the vicious tearing sounds from behind me make my blood curl. “Myths?” Their leader studies me. “Hellhounds are not myths. They are dangerous beasts. Intelligent and blood thirsty. They are also the best demonic trackers.”
