Hex was typically a small man who looks harmless, but he was a special breed of puca. He could shapeshift into anything, and my personal favorite was the wendigo; An eight feet tall creature, if his back weren’t hunched he would hit the ceiling of the garage, he had nothing but bones and flesh with patches of black and brown fur here and there, horns like a woodland animal, his face was skeletal, and if he weren’t too busy eating the humans, I would have almost called him cute.

The digital destination boards were dark. Not empty, though. In the shadows, another scent moved. Sharp. Predatory. Not wolf. Hound. A lean shape padded out from behind a pillar—sleek, black‑furred, eyes gleaming red under the emergency lights. A Tribunal tracking hound—bio‑engineered, nose keyed to Lunaris and other “anomalous” signatures. It snarled softly, hackles rising as it scented them. Its handler, somewhere in the dark, hissed, “Steady—” but the leash was loose enough to let it lunge if it chose.

Axil's tense lips twisted as a ferocious snarl forced through them, his eyes now glowing a bright hazel as they stared at the shrubs we parted before to enter this place. His voice entered my ears and caused my heart to drop into my stomach. "Hellhounds."

My jaw drops. In front of me stands a massive ember wolf with four heads—that’s right, four heads each with razor-sharp teeth. Fire rippling through her fur. She takes off, tearing the two witches apart without even stopping. She is in front of her beta in a flash and shreds the witch within seconds. Her beta shifts into a deep black wolf with fire-red eyes and black smoke coming off of her. Andricia lifts all four snouts to the sky and lets out a howl. Instantly, every pack member of hers shifts into the same black wolf, with black smoke trickling off of them. Hellhounds—they are a pack of hellhounds. They all rip the witches apart quickly, and the witches start to retreat.

And a mad one at that. The Hellhound, they called him. Even though he was important, he was known to go on certain missions with his underlings though those particular ones were usually very specific. Anyone who ever got a visit by the New York Mafia with him being there meant they had done something terrible and could not live to the next day.

"Put the gun away and back off." He doesn't move, so this time, I take him by the arm, easing him backwards. The pitch is low. Whatever's producing the sound is big. As we retreat a few steps, the owner of the sound emerges. And he's a whopper. Black, with ginger face markings and eyebrows, this dog could be cast as 'Hellhound of the Year'. A Rottweiler, he crouches, body hanging low, ears laid flat back. His eyes are white-rimmed and his lips pulled back to display ranks of pristine teeth.
