“Nuu-Chah, please keep my pup safe.” With that, I breathed out. Together, Dylan and I reached for the barrier. A streak of light blasted at the spot where we tapped, until the whole barrier collapsed. The impact was so strong that it knocked all Starsmoon's warriors into the air before their bodies fell back hard onto the ground. “Cherry?” Dylan sighed out of relief after he was done sizing me up and saw no injury on my body. Eyes roaming around, I found that even Bert was wincing in pain as he got up from the fall.

I took it. The walk to the altar felt unreal. The ceremony space had been arranged in one of Emberfall’s great garden courtyards, where black stone paths circled a wide open space filled with flowers from both sides. My father had spared no expense, but he had not made it cold or too grand for me to breathe. Emberfall’s gold arches stood over the aisle, but were softened by vines and flowers brought from the werewolf side. White moonblossoms from Brooksbridge grew beside Emberfall’s fire-blooms. I froze, a sob building in my chest as I watched the petals twirl to the ground. The once-green buds beside them withered, turning brown and drying out before they, too, tumbled down. A snowflake landed on my nose. It melted as it touched my skin. Another fell, then another. It was snowing again. It was snowing again. I fell to my knees. The moss was shrivelling up; I hit hard stone.

Just as I had the thought my phone vibrated in my pocket. "Thorpe." "It's done." I hung up without saying another word. And so it begins, there was no going back now. The sound of heavy footsteps resonates through my ears as the same man from whom I had run earlier was facing me, standing all high and mighty looking down upon me with no emotion visible upon his face.
