One by one, they fall to the ground. I as well tackle one of the wolves to the ground. Unfortunately, in this war, you have to kill or be killed. One of the Violet pack wolves’ attacks one of the pups. I rush over, knock him down off his feet, and go for the throat. I helped the little pup up, making sure he was okay. I hear from a distant Michael screaming. I rush over to him, grab the wolf attacking him, and throw him to the ground, ripping open his throat.

I hesitantly accepted and dropped it after one hurried shake of our arms. He immediately turned his back to me and began heading to the center of the sparring ring. When he pivoted around I momentarily caught a glimpse of the back of his neck. I was taken aback when I spotted not one, but a plethora of Molnija marks, small tattoos shaped like lightning bolts coming together in an X. Each tattoo signified a Strigoi kill and was usually accompanied by our Guardian insignia upon entry of service. Many Guardians kept their hair shorter or pulled back to show them proudly. I supposed I had only seen him with his hair down up until that point, but for a moment I couldn't believe my eyes. I started

:Warrior, you said you had another such vision earlier. Rhychard nodded as he told them about the incident at his parents' house. "That one was real enough to singe my fingertips." He held out his hands for their inspection. Tryna slid off the table, took his fingers in her tiny hands, and inspected them as if she were a doctor. "You really should have had Kree treat these burns when they first occurred. That is part of the reason cosheys bond with Warriors, remember? Their healing powers help keep you alive."

Around me, the vanguard is rapidly losing ground, men and women shouting muffled warnings as the sludge reaches their chins, turning the grand courtyard into a vast, drowning pool of subterranean mire. Every second we spend fighting the mud saps our strength, and the terrifying reality that we might lose our elite fighters without even striking a blow against a tangible enemy sends a spike of cold panic through my veins. I call out to our pack through our mental link, commanding everyone to shift into their wolf forms to use their claws to scramble out of the muddy vortex.

Her anger and rage hidden beneath it. “Oh I am going to have fun with you.” He growled, stepping towards her, hsi hand going to grab her. Levi dodges his reach, slashing her claws through his forearm, as she rolls out of the way her other hand goes to his torso wanting to shove her claws into his abdomen but she misses, leaving long slashes across his stomach. She squares off again just on the other side of him. He lets out a loud growl, blood dripping down his forearm. He presses his hand to his abdomen, his hand turning red as blood drips from the two long claw marks. He laughed looking down at his hand.

I ducked under his swipe, pivoting smoothly before driving my claws into his gut. His breath hitched. His eyes widened in shock before I twisted my claws and ripped them free. Blood sprayed across my face, warm and sticky. He crumpled at my feet. His body twitched before going still. I heard another snarl behind me. Instinct took over. I spun, raising my hand just in time to block an incoming strike. The force sent tremors up my arms, but I held my ground. My opponent, a Dune warrior with sand-colored fur, pushed against my hand with strength.

Then, stunning all of us, he dropped to his hands and knees, growling loudly, his teeth growing into points and tufts of fur sprouting all over his body. He was Shifting. This was dishonorable in a duel and made it an automatic forfeit on his part. But it didn’t seem like he was going to kneel down and accept his defeat. He was still Shifting in front of us, his wild, bloodthirsty gaze locked on me as a tail burst out from behind him. “He’s not going to stop!” Arden shouted, and I rushed forward, raising my sword high and bringing it down as hard as I could.

Claud, Lupa, Lycidas, and Zakaria sprang into action, their movements a blur as they attempted to counter the arbiter’s assault. Claud lunged forward, his fists igniting with flames as he aimed a powerful punch at the arbiter. The arbiter effortlessly sidestepped, countering with a backhanded strike that sent Claud crashing into the wall. Lycidas, a part warlock and part werewolf, summoned a barrage of magical projectiles, but the arbiter swatted them away as if they were mere flies. Zakaria tried to get close, her fangs bared, but the arbiter’s glowing aura repelled her, sending her sprawling across the room.

The air crackled with anticipation as the battlefield became our shared hunting ground. Without warning, Zack lunged at me with a lightning-fast speed, his claws extended to rend and tear. Instinctively, I dodged his attack, my agility matching his own. We moved in a deadly dance, our bodies twisting and turning, each strike and parry filled with lethal intent. I swiped at Zack with my powerful claws, but he countered with a swift dodge, retaliating with a series of ferocious bites. The clash of our fangs and the sound of our growls echoed through the night, blending with the wind that whispered through the trees.
