I Was His Wingman, Never His Man

I Was His Wingman, Never His Man

They understood what I was doing at once and immediately launched an attack down the left wing. Ian's face changed drastically when he saw this, as he desperately tried to get back on defense. However, our formation was already fully deployed by then, completely blocking his path. The first period ended with us leading 2-0. The second and third periods of the game only grew more intense. I dribbled into the box. Ian roared as he charged at me, trying to ram me into the barrier. In the past, I would have deliberately avoided him just to avoid injuring him. But this time, I didn't back down at all.

Throne of Claws (Book one of Dragons and Wolves)

It was only a matter of time before his entire body succumbed to the flames. The throne room was silent. It was like everyone was holding their breath for the young prince, saying their goodbyes. I kept my eyes on my nephew, the last honor I could give him before he passed, when suddenly, light like I've never seen before began spreading in the room. The light seemed to have a life of its own as it went into Avani. Murmurs broke out in the throne room and all eyes turned to the werewolf girl, still kneeling on the floor, her eyes fixed on my nephew.

My Archangel Soulmate

My Archangel Soulmate

I reluctantly nodded, giving up then started walking on the alley towards the car only to be suddenly stopped in my tracks when I suddenly heard him ask, “Wait, where are you going?” I quickly spun around, staring at him, visibly confused as I replied unsure, “To the car?” He lightly chuckled, making me stare at him even more confused before he finally said, “Yeah...um, actually, we are not going to take the cars. We’re going to use the faster, easier way.” Just as he'd finished that sentence, he quickly shrugged his dress coat off of his shoulders, large ebony wings slowly sprouting from behind his back, making me stare at them in awe for a moment as this was the first time I was actually s

Claimed by the Horde

“Yeah, I would have told him that… but you know, I’d like to keep my wings.” Serenity’s gaze snapped up and she lowered the book. “What do you mean, keep your wings?” Noah’s eyes opened and he tilted his head back down, looking at her. “Well, if we’re bad, or just assholes to our superiors, they like to rip our wings off. You know, like kids do to flies. Watch us struggle.” “Really? You're kidding, right?” Noah didn't chuckle, or say anything and serentiy's eyes went wide. "You're not kidding..."

I also nodded in agreement that it is extremely odd that a ferocious wolf has fairy-like, attractive wings on his back, but I could not bear to sell it. I tried to convince Winston that he should like his wings because they make him look stunning, but he immediately crossed his arms to show that he did not agree. So to not waste more of our time in front of the gate, I gently pluck out Winston's wings. Unfortunately, we essentially have nothing with us, and I am just hoping I have my phone with me so I can at least save this rare chance to see him with wings. “How much do you think it will cost?” William asked in curiosity. He also touched his wings as if he were considering pawning them.

She is My Hope

She is My Hope

"I would never let you die." Hope whispered to me. Then she let go of me and stood beside me with a corner smile, confident, she made a simple motion with her hand and that reddish shape spread further, like wings, but not just any wings, they were Dragon wings. As the wings passed through the shadows and places a bluish flame appeared and began to burn everything that wasn't solid. I could tell the shadows were writhing and screaming, they were screams of agony as they were consumed, the runes of protection disappeared and the magic that was in the place dissipated, but these flames didn't hit us, it was as if the people who were with me were immune to them.

Twin Alphas: Wings Of Prophecy Series

Twin Alphas: Wings Of Prophecy Series

She had drawn a couple of sigils on the floor and had a lit red candle in her grip. "Two becomes one. One raises the hatchet and strikes the one. So, mote it be for generations to come. In twos do they come, offspring from the light and from the dark. Strings of fate entangled around two of souls. Offspring in twos with seeds of cruelty and discord so mote it be" Anger welled up inside of me, but that anger was quickly replaced by confusion when I heard the cries of two women who seemed to be in labour. Next came the cries of newborns. It was at this point that I understood what was going on.

Divine Academy

Divine Academy

He growls before commanding me to fly now unless I want to be condemned to the depths of Tartarus and made into a soulless creature. I tighten my arms against Luka as I flap my giant wings, rising us up above the soulless. The smog spreads quickly, trying to entangle us in it, but my wings send a powerful gust of wind as I take off into the air, sweeping the smog away from us.

Maddox, The Broken Alpha

I moved my right hand to her waist then slid my arm around her waist and held her tight. I deepened the kiss and thought loudly to her, "hold me tighter." Her arms wrapped around my neck tighter. Letting me know she heard me. I smiled knowing she can finally hear me. I focused on my light as my tongue moved with hers and I felt it... My wings. I pushed them back and felt them materialize. I push them outward feeling my wings spread and open up. It felt so good to spread my wings. They're white, they slightly glow and they're soft.

Absolutely love the series. I love how every character is like a main character & how each of their story is told & love the strong bonds that form between packs. The series brings out so many emotions it’s almost as if it’s a tv drama which I wish it was. Absolutely recommend this series! ...️

Demon: Supernatural Bad Boys V

My heart and body rebels at the thought I make my way to the back of the building and release my wings. The good thing about demon wings is that they can also materialize over my clothes. Fallon gives me a hard glare when I land on the roof. The building is not very tall. But it’s tall enough to obscure us from spectators. Thankfully, it’s still dark outside.

Frequently Asked Questions

'Wings' is the first book in Aprilynne Pike's young adult series, and it follows a pretty straightforward but engaging premise: a teenager named Laurel discovers she’s actually a faerie, specifically a plant-based faerie called a Fall faerie, which explains why she’s always felt out of place and why she’s allergic to everything from electronics to processed foods. The central plot revolves around Laurel navigating this new identity while a mysterious and dangerous threat emerges in the form of a troll who poses a danger to her human family and the faerie realm she’s connected to. The story balances her ordinary high school life with the extraordinary legacy she inherits, creating a classic fish-out-of-water narrative with a magical twist.

Key characters include Laurel herself, who serves as our point-of-view protagonist; David, her steadfast human friend and eventual love interest who becomes her ally in the supernatural conflicts; Tamani, a faerie sentinel from her homeland who has watched over her and brings a more complex, rooted connection to her heritage; and Chelsea, Laurel’s best friend who provides a grounding human perspective. The antagonist, a troll named Barnes, drives much of the immediate conflict as he seeks to exploit Laurel’s unique faerie nature. The dynamic between David and Tamani also sets up a central love triangle that carries through the series, adding layers to Laurel’s struggle between her human life and faerie destiny.

The book’s charm lies in how it treats the faerie lore with a biological, almost scientific angle—the idea of faeries as photosynthetic beings integrated into plant ecosystems—which feels fresh compared to more traditional magical portrayals. Pike spends a lot of time on Laurel’s adjustment, her worries about her adoptive family, and the small-town setting that slowly reveals its hidden dangers. It’s a coming-of-age story wrapped in a paranormal mystery, and while the plot escalates with the troll confrontation, the heart of it remains Laurel figuring out where she truly belongs. I always found the botanical aspects of her powers particularly imaginative, like the scenes where she grows wings from her back, which are beautifully described and central to the book’s title and climax.
